Transmission Temperature

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 NVP SL with the 5.6 engine. I was driving it the other day and noticed that my led temp lights were at 4 lights. I use this van for my business and sell Auto Detailing products. I usually have 800lbs at all times in the back of the van. I also live in Florida and its Hot. This was not towing. Just driving. My 2014 NVP SL transmission temp lights would never go over 3 1/2 lights. And that is with towing a 5000 travel trailer. I was wondering what your Transmission temp readings are when driving? Just like to compare. Thanks.

Towing our camper in summer heat through mountains my BD GT gauge is around 160-180*.  These vans have a giant transmission cooler sitting up in front of the radiator right behind the grill.  Would be really hard to overheat one!

I had another post in here somewhere that documented temps vs. the factory gauge...

EDIT - found the thread - http://nissannvforum.com/topic/935-trans-temp-while-towing/

Varies between 3 and 4 bars on mine and it is a rv type conversion that added 1200+ lbs.

Thanks for the info guys. I did not know what the temp was for each bar. Now I am good. The van only has 1200 miles on it. Still breaking in.

Update on my transmission indicator lights on the meter. Short 60 mile trip today through rolling hills with an outside temp of 90 deg.

Showed 6 light bars or 3 groups of 2 ( I realize there might be two ways of looking at this).

Still nothing to worry about according to other posts in the forum.

Apx. 200lbs in the back.

Freeway 75 mph flat terrain then stop and go on a few Surface streets for about one hour total.

Transmission Temperature gauge showed 4 double bars.

Outside temperature a cool 116 degrees today!
