Here is some info.  Have barely had time to be on here, business is insanely good!!!  In addition to the below, it will be mated to a 7 speed trans.  Before anyone asks, I don't think I'll have pricing info.  As for MPG, word is it will be better than the available v6 right now.  But of course with no EPA rating it will be some time, in the hands of real users before I can at least get some real first hand data.  Cheers guys, hope everyone is doing well for the holidays!!!


 


ENGINE/MOTOR


5.6-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 engine updated


The new VK56VD takes advantage of advanced engine technology to provide more power and higher fuel efficiency than the previous-generation gasoline engine. The engine produces 375 hp @ 5800 rpm and 387 lb-ft of torque @ 4000 rpm.


Notable engine features include:


  • Lightweight components such as aluminum-alloy engine block and cylinder heads, which improve performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions control by reducing engine weight and allowing the engine to warm up more quickly.
  • Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), which varies intake and exhaust valve timing continuously to help improve power, driveability, and fuel economy and reduce emissions.
  • Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL®), which continuously varies intake valve lift to enhance acceleration, increase fuel efficiency, and reduce exhaust emissions. It works in conjunction with CVTCS.
  • Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG), which injects highly pressurized fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder to enhance engine power, increase fuel efficiency, and reduce exhaust emissions.
  • An electronically controlled Multi-Control Valve, which provides flexible management of water temperature to the engine, throttle chamber, transmission fluid cooler and heater, heater, and radiator to help enhance warm-up, cooling, emissions, and fuel economy.

yes, 2017 model year.  We just started being able to order 17's.  I would guess 100 days out, maybe a little less.  No promise that the new v8 will hit then but we will see the 6's for sure soon.  V8 should not be far behind.

100 days out? I was hoping to buy V8 Passenger by January.  I guess I'm stuck with 2016 V8.

Weird, why is the motor rated lower in the NV vs. the Titan?  Motor is identical.  Titan is 390 hp / 394 tq.  There is more than enough room in the engine bay and below for the same intake and exhaust manifolds along with actual exhaust.  If Nissan tuned the NV lower I wonder what their reasoning would be.  Disappointing to be sure.

My guess is the loss in power is due to them pulling a few degrees out of the timing. With a heavy fleet vehicle offered with a warranty, I'd pull timing out also!!!

I agree with aabel. It's very common for "commercial" vehicles to have slightly de-rated motors, just for the sake of the extra abuse and to extend longevity.

Nissan was heavily marketing the Titan to construction and the farm trade industry.  The XD even has gooseneck hookups which is all farm/construction usage.

 

I guess I can hold out hope that somebody like Bullydog can unlock the full HP/TQ of the motor but still doesnt make me happy they gimped it on purpose.

How much better is the new v8 vs the old one? How much difference will the addional HP/torque make if it's primarily a people hauler with occasional towing? I'm thinking right now could be a great time to get a good deal on a '16 v8. The 2017 price jumped up $1390. With an 8% improvement in fuel economy you would have to drive over 90k miles at 13mpg to see a financial savings.

Even if I could wait until Feb 2017, to me it surely is not worth it.  MPG savings of 8% is just a incremental improvement for Nissan on a model lineup strategy to keep increasing overall, nothing that is tangible for us.  Of course, it is nice that they added more horsepower but I don't recall anyone complaining about power.  I would have preferred that they figure out a way to improve MPG by 20% and keep the HP where they are.  

 

The only thing that concerns me is that if the price is going up, anyone that was is in the market will be looking to get one in 2016 and the supply could start to get thinner.  Or maybe not, and they will discount the 2016's to get rid of them if they are still in inventory come Feb. 

 

Now if they offered a passenger version that was not over 7', I would figure out a way to wait.

I have been waiting for the announcement of the 2017 cargo van for roughly 1/2 year.  I was hopeful Nissan would make substantial improvements to the cargo van, specifically the length of the cargo area (which remains unchanged).  I am very disappointed in the news brought by the press release, and am realizing that the Nissan offering probably will not work for what I wanted to do (4wd adventure van with full wet bath/galley/bed).

 

It's too bad, because every other van manufacturer seems to offer various lengths.

 

And, as the others have said, raising the price and an 8% fuel savings doesn't cut it.

I hope you don't give up on the NV for your build.

Reading thru a few of your past posts, it is apparent that it meets practically all of your requirements except for length - and that length is important mainly so that you will have room for a full wet bath area.

We have a 2012 NV 2500 that is "fully converted" with everything except the wet bath area. We rolled it across the CAT scale recently while FULLY loaded and found it to weigh in at 8700 lbs.

So If we had incorporated a wet bath and all that goes with it we would be overweight when tanks were full - if not before. I'm not very happy about the 8700 lbs either, but it is what it is - haven't found much I'm willing to throw overboard.

So be aware that weight creeps up on you quickly

when making it just like you want. And, the more space you have, the more the weight adds up.

We don't dry camp or boondock other than an occasional emergency so we have never missed the wet bath feature. And, I never have to winterize. Our rig is ready to go immediately - any time of the year.

We came to the NV from a "small" 27' Coach House because we wanted even more mobility and the capability of fitting into a regular parking space. Best move we've made lately - love the NV and intend to drive it till completely used up.

trucktrend.com has a short article on the new NV V8. 14-15 mpg vs 13+ mpg. A lot of us already get this with the old V8.

 

Be sure to check out the "wrap" link in the article. TT continues to use this van and it appeared in their "desert" truck the year segment.

 

Edgar, Sportsmibile did a one-off NV hightop with shower and portapot combo in the rear, driver's side. Portapot could be stored in a cabinet or in the shower base. Curtain for privacy so weight gain and plumbing would be minimal. You need a lot of water for a shower or count on a water hook up.

 

The bed (gaucho) was along the side behind the driver's seat. It folded out toward the slider. Still had plenty of room for cabinets with walk through to the rear doors. A rear facing awning (SMB did this on a Transit) and screens would give you added space.

 

The beauty of 20' is you can beat most length. retractions.

I was hopeful for more than 8% in savings for MPG.  That can pay out over the long run but a very long run!  We just have a very large, very boxy, very heavy vehicle.  Not sure much of anything will really help MPG other than a small diesel and then it wont tow anything and be slow.  The Cummins V8 is sort of like a weird mix between the stump pulling power of the inline 6 Cummins used in Rams vs. an Ecodiesel style motor.  

 

My neighbor is a contractor with a new top of the line Ram 3500 Megacab 4x4 diesel.  Babying it he can get 19mpg out of that tank of a truck.  He has seen as high as the low 20's at 60mph with the cruise on.  Towing his Bobcat around he can still manage 14 on the flats.  I would trade up in an instant if they could pull those numbers out of the NV.  If he really hammers on it (75+ mph) he still gets around 15.

 

Since adding my all terrain tires and roof rack I am lucky to crack 13 mpg and most tanks are 12-12.5 mpg.  That is with a mix of mostly highway style driving too.

Hi thanks for the welcome, doing the brake discs this weekend but already struggling to get the bbs covers off

Will get a photo bucket account this weekend to put up some pics , does anybody know anything about my golf I can see it was owned by a member on here Kerri/Gerard does anyone have any info on its previous owners ie any problems they've had with it in the past? Car seems ok just needing tlc.......
