Tire Pressure

Hi Folks

 

I was curious what air pressure you are running in your tires.  Front and Back different?    Are you deviating from what is on the door jamb of the van?

 

How do you get tire pressure light off if you run different pressure.  Door jamb calls for 80 PSI rear and 50 PSI front?

 

Any help or insight would be great

 

By the way,  I love this van 20,000 miles later

You can run them about 10 psi below before the low psi warning comes on. You can temporarily disable it but have to do this every time you start your engine.

 

Jon Nelson claimed you can recalibrate the existing TPMS depending on tire size etc. I don't think this is the case.

 

I'm looking at the mobile version so don't know what type of NV you have. Since these are cargo vans first and foremost, they are oriented toward maximum + cargo.

 

There have been several post regarding really high front tire psi and poor handling as a result. TPMS doesn't care about too high psi.

I have been running 60 psi in the front and 75-80 in the rear. 60 to me feels the best in the front, any higher and it feels to harsh going over bumps. I kinda thought 50 seemed low, and the tires were kinda squished so I started playing around with the psi.

 

The TPSM on my van doesn't seem to mind the 60front /75rear pressure I'm running.

 

I think handling/safety is definitely what dictated the 50/80 pressure recommendation.

Interesting experiences.

 

I have a 2015 NV3500 passenger but I took out all the seats on day 1 and never put them back in, never planned too.   I use it as a cargo van.   What prompted the question is I had the oil changed and they put 50psi up front and 80psi back which is the numbers off the door and the light came on and is still on.   When we discussed it and tried to deal with it he said my psi all around was at least 15 off or it would not of had his tool buzz, as it did.  Hmm.   He believed the fronts were 40 and rear 65psi when I came in.   I know 40 is not 15 off 50psi but that is what he said.

 

I love the way it drove whatever way it was before.   It seemed stiffer to me coming home after the change whatever it was.  I don't really drive the van around town much and will get a better feel when I take it on a trip on the interstate.  

 

Now if nothing else I have to get the light off

TPMS is most likely set very conservatively to allow for overloading and not checking tire pressure. So you may have plenty of wiggle room for handling preference. Tire wear may be another issue...
