Electrical Wire Through Firewall

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to install a VSR (Voltage Sensitive Relay) to charge my house battery off the alternator while driving. I'm looking to run a 4AWG wire from the VSR to the house battery which will be in the cargo area, does anyone know of a good spot to run wire through the firewall in a 2013 Nissan NV2500?

On mine, I was able to leverage an existing factory hole directly under the glovebox under the carpet on the front passenger side. So it didn't exactly go "through the firewall", but it routed beneath the passenger compartment into the engine bay. You might try that route to avoid drilling a hole.

I used one of these pass thru fittings and had it come out inside the van just under the passenger seat as there was already a hole there that had tape over it (I did have to enlarge it some). I used 1/0 wire because I was connecting a battery in the engine bay to the two batteries inside the van. Since the wire was doing more than just charging (as it was going to transfer power too), that is why it is 1/0 gage.

I ended up removing a rubber grommet under the passenger side carpet and running a 4AWG wire through there, thanks

How do you remove the floor lining from the passenger side?

that is not carpet, it is hard rubber.

Get your hands in there and just remove it!!

I found an existing hole on the drivers side and used a cable gland for a water resistant pass through.
