Recommended Posts

my 2500 high roof needs sound proofing because of rain noise. I use for camping and it will drive me crazy, can anyone help with this.

Fixing this will let you hear the drip, drip, drip onto the back bumper...

We used almost two rolls of FatMat in our NV, and it helped considerably cut down noises like that. Still need to insulate better though, maybe a headliner too.

Previous owner of my van (cargo hot-shotter who occasionally over-nighted in the van) used fiberglass batts on walls, ceiling, and stuffed into doors. This was covered with extruded foam hard insulation panels on ceiling, and 1/4" underlayment plywood on the sides and doors. Yes, it looks just like it is described - something off of The Red Green Show. But it works, it is VERY quiet.  This winter i will replace the plywood with fiberglass milk-house panels. Actually cut to fit, using plastic push rivets. (previous owner used Tap-Con screws...yes. Tap-Cons)

I used Dynamatt and then Thinsulate from http://www.impact3d.com/ Now wrapping up with wall panels.  Much quieter.  The Thinsulate is GREAT. Nice people in Oregon can ship it to you.

I wonder if there is someway to drape something over the top of the van. Stopping the rain from hitting the hard steel roof would be the best way to isolate the noise. Problem is whatever you put up there would be soaked unless you could park under a tarp. Might be hard to do with a high top though.

I used Noico roll on sound deadening and automotive thinsulate over that. Crazy quiet. Only rain we hear now is on the outside of the Maxxfan. Noico on Amazon, automotive thinsulate on eBay. Thinsulate insulates and is a sound deadener.
