UltraTouch Radiant barrier

Recommended Posts

OK I needs some guidance/opinions. I am getting ready to install UltraTouch Radiant Barrier in my new NV for the radiant and sound deadening benefits of the product along with the added benefit of the insulation properties. I have seen people swear by foil side out and others swear by the cotton side out. There is applied logic to both but I feel that the foil against the van metal wall would do very little. The foil IMO needs the gap between the metal exterior wall and the foil that is provided by the cotton batting to truly offer a radiant barrier. Therefore foil side out regardless of Roof, Walls or Floor installation?

Your opinions matter and are appreciated.

Just like the insulation in your house,as you've already surmised, the foil should face in and form a sealing layer and let the foam form the insulating barrier between the out sheet metal and the inner foil.

IF you want a RADIANT BARRIER, as well as sound deadening and insulation, there must be an air gap of minimum 1/2" between 2 layers of the Ultra Touch Radiant Barrier, with the foil sides facing each other.

So, glue denim side to interior metal, foil facing into interior... THEN apply denim side to inside paneling, foiling facing towards gap and other foil surface.  I contacted Bonded Logic and other foil manufacturers to confirm this.  You can not have a "radiant barrier" without an air gap, between 2 foil surfaces, for the heat to trap itself in.

I do have a YouTube channel that shows my sad lil' temp camper van builds to date.  VAN BUILD (3) shows the insulation.  If interested, you can search "Day Drifter Van" there and easily find my channel.  If you scroll thru' my playlists, there are four VAN BUILD clips so far and two DAY TRIPPIN' clips that all show my van interior, in various stages of "build".  Please do comment if you do venture over there, letting me know you are from forum and/or are a fellow NV owner!

Take care!
