Any luck with this? I am looking for a remote start option. So far everyone is saying they can't do it. The one guy that can is wanting me to buy an uncut key and program it an somehow link it into the system under the dash.

I had a Code-Alarm remote start installed. I believe it was around $225-$250 installed.

If anyone tries the Fortin, please let us know how it goes. The chart at the top on the installation instructions says that it can't control the door locks on the NV. That would be a bummer.

Yeah the Fortin looks like our best bet from what i can tell. I maybe getting one if i can't find any other viable options

From a DIY point of view, the Fortin looks promising.  I haven't found any other brand that makes a T harness for the NV.  Please point out any I may have missed.

My NV doesn't fit in my garage and I don't like the idea of splicing wires in the snow, so I'm to buy something from Best Buy and let them figure out how to install it.  They sometimes have some decent online deals on packages that include the remote starter and installation.

My remote starter is finally installed.  I got a Compustar CS-800-S-KIT from Best Buy for $229 (installation included).  It's a one-way system with about a thousand foot range.  I had to wait almost a month for installation, but it was really nice to offload that job to someone else.  :-)

This particular remote starter is definitely not plug and play.  There's no T-harness, so it requires a lot of wire hunting and splicing.  Their appointment booking system estimated it would take 3.5 hours for a Nissan NV.  The installer at Best Buy has been working with these for a long time and really knows what he's doing.  It took him a bit over 4 hours.  That means it probably would have taken me a day or two.

I'm really happy with it so far.  It works exactly as one would expect.

If you want a remote starter, sign up for Best Buy's deal of the day email.  They have deals on remote starters every few weeks during the cold weather months.  That saved me about $70.  A lot of the deals include installation in the price.

I installed a Viper alarm on my nv 2500. It's the alarm I put in all my previous service trucks. This time, I piggybacked a Smartstart to it. It works awesome and I've started my van from inside malls, hospitals even three blocks away. The neat thing is that I signed up for their GPS tracking for $100 for a year. I can set geofences, track my vehicle in real time, set speed limit alerts, activate panic mode and it will alert me if the van is moved from where I set the geofence.

Gerry C - I would like more information on your viper solution.  We had a viper remote start put on our original 2012 NVP at Best Buy.  I remember at the time it was REALLY HARD for them to figure it out, but they eventually did and it worked pretty well.  Door locks were controlled and remote start on the key fob was reliable about 75% of the time, up to around 1000 feet. I did NOT have to install a viper alarm though.

Do you know if their new smart start system, including smart phone control, would work and if it would require an alarm too?  We have since replaced that van with a 2015 and I miss being able to pre-cool the vehicle.  I filled out an inquiry form on the viper website but no one has contacted me.

Any insight is appreciated.

Does anyone know what wire the remote start taps into, in order to activate the stater motor?

Okay I found it. Yellow wire,  in white plug at back of ignition switch.

Has anyone tried the Fortin remote start unit yet? I am hoping to get one for my 2013 NV3500 HD High Roof work van.
