Charging house batteries through coach battery?

Recommended Posts

I have the Roadtrek N6 with two 6v AGM house batteries and of course the coach (vehicle )battery,we have a 30 amp plug in for shore power but I only have a 20 amp circuit at my house and have to use an adapter to make it fit the 15 amp wall outlet . I started to charge the vehicle battery the other day and noticed the battery separator kicking in, Im wondering if Im able to charge all 3 batteries with my battery charger hooked up to the vehicle battery. I have already learned the hard way that these AGM batteries need to be kept charged to almost full.  Any help would be great , thank you !

Not much different from charging while idling, only much slower(?). If you are doing this as as a trickle charge, it should work to keep everything charged.

We also have to use the adapter to charge the "house" batteries at home and some older campgrounds. It is a slow process, but maybe faster than the way you discovered. Time it if you can...

Does your NV come with a starter button that uses the house batteries to start the engine if the battery won't? It was news to us that this is common in RVs.

Ok thanks radin2son, ours did not come with a starter button but I have heard of those. Roadtrek cut some serious corners with our build, really good idea but poorly executed. I have had to clean up a lot of their sloppy work  and have things fixed under warranty to get the van working properly.
