Amateur Radio Operators???

Recommended Posts

Is there any other amateur (ham) radio operators with NV vans?

Looking about next August to get mine but already planning the radio and antenna installation...

I am one WD8MMF - out of Cleveland, Ohio.. It's too bad the built in inverter can *just* barely power up a battery pack for a small drill.

Plan on powering everthing via 12dc or add a better inverter. I add a pair of house batteries so I can power 2 fans mounted on the back doors and a refrig. So far everything working ok..

W8GSD here. Home is Goshen, Ohio, but my job keeps me on the road. I just purchased my NV, and am looking forward to modifying it to make it "mine." I am anxious to hear if you run into any issues with RF from the ECM, ignition, or fuel pump.

I just found this topic.  I'm thinking about getting a mobile transceiver, but I'm worried about knocking the antenna off by driving under bridges, tree branches, etc.  At least the ground plane is large.  :-)

Have you had any electrical noise issues with your radios?  I'm assuming you wired them directly into the van's battery?

Just joined - KK6TBH; I'm not really a 'ham' but I have radios in my off-road rigs.  Just picked up a new Yaesu FTM400XDM for one of them; have a Icom FT8800 in the other.  Honestly 90% of the time I'm just using 2m simplex to talk to other trucks on the trail with me though.

I don't do a lot of ham stuff, either.  I got my extra ticket a couple years ago just because I was having fun, but I don't have the time or budget to progress beyond occasional 2m work.
