buickmarti Posted May 5, 2018 (edited) Wife was out driving our 2013 tonight and this part fell out of the steering wheel area when she shifted it into drive. Van still works fine. Had some yellow grease on it. I have searched every parts breakdown I can find on line. Any ideas? Edited May 5, 2018 by buickmarti
Mark Rogers Posted May 8, 2018 (edited) I don't have a part number, but several people on Facebook have complained about it falling out of the gear selector mechanism. Some people posted photos that showed a part that's the same shape, but white instead of black. My best guess from the various attempts people have made to describe it is that it helps to hold the shift lever in the selected position.Apparently it can be screwed back in. Some people have suggested using longer screws that the originals to keep it from falling out again. If you find an actual name or part number, please let us know. radin2son Posted May 8, 2018 (edited) This part looks nothing like the part involved in the 2012-13 recall (13V-395) for a metal selector plate lock clip that was installed incorrectly. All vehicles had to be checked. If I recall, the shift lever indicator looked like it was in park and it wasn’t or at least not completely. Simple check and fix with no replacement part needed. Ours was installed correctly. It’s possible Nissan replaced this part with plastic. I would check to see if there are any service bulletins or related recalls. More than likely it is a plastic cover plate... if longer screws hold it in place, you may not need to replace the part. What does Nissan service say this is?
