Since nobody seems to be talking much about the NV/NVP lately maybe people are bored and want to talk about random stuff!  I know hobby topics are popular on other forums I visit so figured why not here.

 

Me: 

Lifelong hobbies - watches mainly.  Mostly mechanical (automatic or handwind) but I do like some cool digital watches as well.  I also love mechanical keyboards (typing, not musical!) and have several I rotate in usage.  I type a lot for work so I learned to love a good keyboard.

 

Younger days - I autocrossed and did track days for over 15 years.  Loved working on the cars and helping friends out.  I've been snowboarding since 1985 when it was in it's infancy.  Taught skiing and snowboarding for many years.  Was a tech rep for several snowboard companies and got to compete for them as well.  Did a lot of mountain biking in the summer when I wasnt racing in my car.

 

These days - cant race the NVP!  Been out of racing a while actually.  I got back into RC planes, mainly electric and gliders.  Havent gotten into the whole quadcopter/drone thing other than a little mini quad I fly inside the house.  Do a lot more camping and hiking now too.

Current hobby, if not completely obvious, is traveling in our NV, which limits to some degree other hobbies.

We are not full timers, but we have exceeded our goal of 12k a year. In 3 years, we have put over 51k on the odometer of our "travel" NV. My daily driver has been my bike, although we do have a car.

I've given up serious training for road cycling, but my wife has figured out a way to create a Pilates/yoga "studio" wherever we end up.
In bad weather, she uses the limited floor space in our NV, while I retreat to the "loft" (the portion of the bed not suspended under the roof with the roof up) to read or nap, mostly nap...

With 2 older dogs and dog restrictions in national parks, hiking has been limited.

We enjoy finding farmers' markets or stands, good cafes, local eateries, micro-brewers and local wines. Our consumption of the latter 2 will not keep them in business. Our outdoor kitchen in a duffle bag lets us cook fresh veggies while on the road.

I keep a hand written log of our travels and take lots of photos with an iPhone, rather than bring camera equipment, to keep track of where we have been. Sometimes I miss having a better camera and lenses. The new iPhone is better in this regard. (Nice hike to "House on Fire" ruins near Natural Bridges monument. These guys carried in a lot of equipment... to get this.)

I enjoy exchanging info on where we have been or plan to go. Doesn't matter if you pull an RV, sleep with your motorcycle...

I was a pretty focused gear head in my teens and twenties. My brother and I had an amazing 10 year stint as pretty successful amateur motorcycle road racers, racing with the WERA Roadracing and National Endurance racing series. We were to the AMA big boys what the Nascar Nationwide series is the the Cup series. Had great success and even greater memories, wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

Now in my mid thirties, still enjoy outdoors and motorsports, but to a much lesser degree. 4 lovely daughters and an amazing wife have made it easy to settle down. Being self employed for our family business keeps us busy, but with our free time we enjoy heading to our campground an hour north with our camper, heading south to Florida for a week in the winter, and a trip once in a while to visit my wife's family back in Madison, NE.

I have a Honda CRF 50 I bounce around in here at the farm. Had a Kawasaki KLR250 until this summer when a deer ran out of a bean field directly in front of me, totaling the bike and putting me in the hospital for a week. Hard to imagine I used to race 100hp + bikes all over the east with no incidents, and I nearly meet the Good Lord riding my 25hp dual sport:/

Looking to buy a sidexside, maybe after Christmas. I have a Honda Pioneer 1000 on my radar, as a way to keep enjoying nature and motorsports, while letting the kids ride along everywhere I go. Most of the use will be here at home, but we'd love to take trips to trails in Michigans UP, in the Keewanaw peninsula. Love it up there.....!

I've enjoyed reading about everyone.  So here's our story, We're in our early 50s and we've been married 26 years.  I started a company in 2003 manufacturing railroad crossing signals and my wife works with troubled kids in our school system.  We have 2 sons the youngest just entered college.

I just completed a road trip with one son and my wife.  Prior to that I didn't take time away from work for 13 years.

I used to kayak, camp, fish, cycle, and play golf, softball, and basketball.

We are beginning several major changes in our lives: I sold my business, we are selling our larger home, and then we're building a smaller home on acreage we own.

Very much off topic, particularly for the professional or hobby level photographers. I learned about this iPhone app at a basic photo class offered by Summit Hut in Tucson. It is called Manual ($2.99). Unless you have the iPhablet 7+, it gives you a telephoto option and more control of the shot you want. I wish I knew about this sooner...

In ASD Dad’s post under conversion, he mentioned being a ski/snowboard instructor. A few days earlier I read a great article in Adventure Journal, “...epic road trip in the coolest van...” GoPro sponsored this spectacular video: skiing, surfing and awesome scenery. It’s a Sprinter van, but who cares...

I like photography and have been getting into genealogy quite a bit. Lately I’ve been trying to get a decent timelapse going on but am still working out bugs. Through my genealogy I have learned that I am American and the “of _______ descent” would be way too long and crazy to post up. I’ll just say I had ancestors on both coasts, Atlantic and Pacific, of what is now the U.S. of A. in the 1700’s.

I like photography at night and use my NV to catch a few shots here and there more flexible than with my Nissan truck (Frontier) and little trailer.
