Do you need to remove the mud flaps to install this running board?

Nope, the running board starts just behind the mudflaps.  I can't remember if I removed them during installation or not, they are just held on with a couple screws....   but the mudflaps are there.

Though I will say the instructions for where to attach the running boards were totally bogus...  I think the passenger version had many more obstacles for the supports, so I had to just adjust and find appropriate places to mount.

Ok thanks for the info. Is this the Luverne O Mega step running board?

Oops I just saw your label, I should've looked before I asked :) Anyway, do you know how much the clearance is between the board and the ground? Because I was wondering if this would be an issue if I'll go get a car wash.

I'm not at home to measure, but there is still a decent amount of clearance.  I take my van through automatic car washes often, haven't ever had an issue.
