I may be going down the same road. Found these guys as a source for seats. Not close to Cali though.

Good to hear!

ASD,
Your trailer is almost 7,000 lbs unloaded? (http://www.forestriverinc.com/product-details.aspx?LineID=200&Image=5377&ModelID=871#Main).
How's it towing? I'm looking at an NV (high top) to tow a 6,500 lb trailer. Probably end up at 7,500 lbs by the time I pack it up, maybe 8,000 lbs. I've got my wife and one small child, no dogs or kayaks, so it looks like you are towing around more weight than I will be.
I'm towing it now with a 5.0 F150 and it's got enough power. Adequate anyway. I figure the NV will be similar, just with more room.

Thanks. Will have to investigate that when I'm looking at the NV this spring.

I had Michelin LT M/S2 tires on my Tundra. Fastest wearing tire ever other than my old race tires. I actually got a set replaced under warranty when they were at the wear bars at 32k miles! They were like Blizzak snow tires on dry pavement. I swear you could see them wear week to week. We had those tires on my wife's old Highlander and she got an easy 70k miles and they still had tread. I talked to a friend who works at Michelin (they're based minutes from me) and he rolled his eyes when I told him about my woes. Told me they were never meant for HD use other than possibly snow or maybe slick mud. Towing just sped things up for me. He blamed Michelin marketing and said they're a wonderful passenger or crossover tire, and they are.
Interesting. I have Michelin LT M/S2 tires on my F150 and they are great. Did you have the P rated versions? Mine are LT tires. And I tow a 7,000 lb Airstream. Coincidentally, I have the same tires on that too.

ASD, is that the in dash system?

Thanks. That's clean enough.

Yea. Good luck. At the very least I'd weld a steel reinforcing plate under the floor below the lift, probably at least twice the size of the lift base. You will have quite a moment arm at the connection with the floor.

Looking into this more it seems the Titan has a 2.92 final drive whereas the NV has 3.36. That should help the NV tow a bit better.

duplicate post.

Not the NV, but here is one towing test of the Titan 1500 with the new 5.6, 7-speed tranny, and a 9,000 lb trailer.
Best I can tell the Titan weighs between 5,900 and 6,000 lbs, so about 200-300 lbs less than the cargo NV. Not enough to make a difference.
I know most people don't drive like in these videos, but it's still worthy of a watch in my opinion. At least for those of us that will be towing a trailer.

Wollip,
Would you say the inside of yours is built out like this https://www.instagram.com/vanlifetravelogue/?
I plan a much simpler build but am a little concerned since I will also be towing a trailer that weighs about 7,500-8,000 lbs.
Thanks.

i doubt it. the 7 speed transmission should help. and even setting that aside, its likely the torque curves are pretty flat. what you are seeing are the peaks. im sure the 2017 model will have plenty of torque at 3500 rpm.

wollip,
I'm guessing your truck was just under 6,200 lbs from the factory. So you added 2,100-2,500 lbs?
What did you add in your conversion?
I'm looking at doing my own and wasn't figuring on adding the type of weight it looks like you did. So I could be underestimating by a large amount.
Any photos to share?
Thanks.

Sure, no rush. I do appreciate it. Thanks.

Nice. Do you have an inside shot of the lever?

2017 specs, but I did see one spec that was superseded already on new v8 engine...
Which was that? HP and torque?
And thanks for the link. Didn't see GCWR on there though. Would love to see that.

I am looking to buy an NV in the coming year and my requirements are that I will be buying a high top V8 and using the vehicle to tow an 8,800 lb GVWR (likely no more than 7,500 lb actual) travel trailer with an estimated tongue weight of between 750 and 1000 lbs. I will be loading the NV itself with no more than an additional 1000 lbs, approximately. So I am looking at maybe 2000 lbs payload applied to the NV before weight distribution via the hitch.
My inclination was to get the 2500 S model but looking at 2017 MSRP pricing that would be $32,400. I would want to add the power package bringing the cost to $33,050.
That is close enough in price to the SV which starts at $33,470 and already includes the power package. Now if I buy a 2500 I also need a $375 hitch and it would be nice to have the $856 towing mirrors. With those added the total MSRP goes to $34,701
Now again that price is close enough to the $35,170 MSRP 3500 SV which already comes with the hitch and tow mirrors to warrant looking at it.
I haven't shopped around much so I don't know what discounts are applied to the various models, but am I missing something or does it make sense for those towing a sizeable trailer to simply jump to the 3500 SV and call it a day?
Also, I looked at the online owners manual for 2016 and I could not discern a difference in GCWR for the 3500 vs. the 2500. Are they both 16,000 lbs for the V8?
Thanks.

No side window option for the cargo version.

Upgrade the interior another level and add 4x4 option and these NV's would be tough to beat. As is I'm on the fence.
