  1. I will definitely be giving this mod a shot. Not for horsepower or fuel economy gains though...only so that I will never have to pay $48 for a Nissan air filter again! I experienced the same issues stated above with only one section of the filter getting extremely dirty while the rest looks brand new. All this after only 10K miles. Tried every auto parts store under the sun to find an aftermarket replacement with no luck whatsoever so I was forced to go to the nearest stealership. Well, they lived up to their name and whacked me over the head for almost $50 bucks for a piece of paper wrapped in plastic. Never again though! Thanks to the original poster for the tips. I'll be trying my hand at this long before this new filter gets dirty.

  3. Started a freight expediting business with my NV3500. Prior to this we used the van to do moving jobs in and around Chicago, and we were getting about 11mpg in mostly stop and go traffic. I was hoping to get slightly better than that doing mainly highway driving, but was preparing for the worst case scenario! Must say that I was shocked to see my first tank calculated MPG at 16.6!! Amazing to say the least, especially since I was loaded with about 950lbs of freight. So far I've tracked over 6K miles using the Fuelly app and am averaging about 15mpg overall. Very pleased to see those kind of numbers when I'm usually loaded down with as much as 3600lbs of cargo. So far so good!
  4. Are you talking about the D-rings in the cargo area? If so I can testify to hauling a 3,600lb skid from Tulsa Oklahoma to Houston Texas, with more than a few hard stops, corners, and accelerations and they held up fine. I used heavy duty ratchet straps to tie down the load and it didn't budge an inch the whole ride. Hope this helps.
  5. Just purchased the van last week and now I'm scouring the internet for a template to base my design around. I was able to find the image below after searching for hours, but it's quite distorted in places. Does anyone have access to the document I'm looking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Just purchased a brand new NV 3500 High-Top for our growing general contracting business. Our previous work vehicle was a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD with the Duramax diesel, so I'm probably going to miss the fuel economy (especially while towing). I do hope to see some decent MPG gains over the older models since this one comes with the 7-speed transmission though. We looked at several vans, including the Mercedes Sprinter and the Ford Transit during the buying process, but the 100,000 mile warranty and lower base pricing is what ultimately won us over. Plus we were able to negotiate over $5K off of the MSRP, and Nissan included the commercial business incentives that allowed us to outfit the rig at no additional cost with a nice partition, interior ladder rack, and two sets of Slick Locks. I'm glad there is an online community for owners to share info and tips, and as I get more familiar with the van I hope to be of some assistance. Peace & Blessings!
