  1. Anyone got a decent idea of how to improve the ride (make softer) on this beast?  My 3 month old cries everytime she is in this car and my wife is lookin into driving the car off a cliff to get the insurance money to buy a minivan!

If anyone has done a suspension upgrade and can provide me a before/after impression, much thankful.

Have a leaf taken out of the rear springs and add air-assist shocks for carrying a load?

  2. 4 cameras & an iPad. Keep talking... I like where this is going.

Ooops. I read too quickly. I thought you had 4 cameras sending video to the ipad. Not 4 video monitors. By bad.

I was hoping for a neat 4 camera surround display like in some of the high end SUVs. My friend's Infinity SUV has it.

  3. This truck, NV3500SL, was the front runner for our new family truckster. But I think I'm going to hold on until the Ford Transit Wagon comes out. I'd like to see what the diesel has in store for mileage. I was resigned to the fact that I would just get abysmal mileage. It's big truck, square, with a large frontal area. Can't do much about that. But the Ford 3.2L diesel may hold some promise for mileage. But time will tell. Not a lot of info is available for the Transit Wagon yet.

  4. There is a rear door latch recall, and rear cargo dome light recall. I had both done today.

Do you remember the campain number or identifier? If so, start a new topic to keep them separat. (If you don't mind). It's probably some OCD issue I have cropping up. ;-)

  5. Make: NISSAN Model: NV

    Model Year: 2012

Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. Report Receipt Date: DEC 19, 2011

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 11V592000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A

    Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

    Summary:

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 INFINITI FX, MODEL YEAR 2012 INFINITI M, MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 NISSAN FRONTIER, MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 NISSAN XTERRA, MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 NISSAN PATHFINDER, AND MODEL YEAR 2012 NISSAN NV VEHICLES. SOME OF THE BOLTS THAT CONNECT THE ENGINE OIL COOLER AND THE ENGINE OIL FILTER TO THE ENGINE IN THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED TO BELOW SPECIFICATION STRENGTH. AS A RESULT, THE BOLT MAY BREAK AT THE OIL FILTER ATTACHMENT POINT AND CAN CAUSE AN ENGINE OIL LEAK.

    Consequence:

IF THERE IS AN ENGINE OIL LEAK, THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WOULD DROP AND THE ENGINE COULD SEIZE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

    Remedy:

NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CONNECTOR BOLTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 30, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

    Notes:

OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

  6. The wheels are 8 lugs on a 165mm circle. Make sure the offset is correct. The Stock wheels are 17" x 7.5" with a +1.6" (40mm) Offset.

If you go wider, make sure you adjust the offset so you don't rub the tire in corners.

The Tirerack info shows D load range 245/75R17s are stock, but I can't find any tires in the stock size that aren't load range E (3195lb).

I have found a few manufacturers that make 20" wheels that have several offsets available for the 8-165 pattern in varying offsets.

If you keep your backspacing the same, you won't have to worry about rubbing, but it will shift all of the additional width to the outboard edge of the rim.

Backspace = (width/2)+offset+0.5inch, NV wheels have 5.85" of backspace. A 17x9 wheel with +1.0" offset would have 6.0" of backspace. Thus only reducing your inner tire clearance by 0.15". Not too bad.

(edited the backspacing calulation to add 0.5")

    (edited 6.8" of backspace to 6.0", type-o)

A 275/55R20 tire in an XL load range (tirerack.com) has a rated load of 2833lb.

Info from the NV Passenger Body Builders Guide shows that the tires have a load rating of 3000lb in the rear @ 80PSI and 2205lbs in the front at 50PSI.

I'm not sure how you feel about sacrificing 137lbs per tire of load capacity, but I personally wouldn't worry about it unless you plan on loading the van to its full capacity and towing with it at the same time.

  8. I found this while doing some NV research.

    Source: http://www.lemonauto.com/complaints/1_nissan_recalls.htm

NEWS: Nissan is recalling 14,700 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles; Engine oil leak

DECEMBER 2011 -- Nissan is recalling certain model year 2011 Infiniti FX, model year 2012 Infiniti M, model year 2011-2012 Nissan frontier, model year 2011-2012 Nissan Xterra, model year 2011-2012 Nissan pathfinder, and model year 2012 Nissan NV vehicles. Some of the bolts that connect the engine oil cooler and the engine oil filter to the engine in these vehicles may have been manufactured to below specification strength. As a result, the bolt may break at the oil filter attachment point and can cause an engine oil leak. If there is an engine oil leak, the engine oil pressure would drop and the engine could seize, increasing the risk of a crash. Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the connector bolts free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about January 19, 2012. Owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov . 11V-592

    MORE RECALL INFO:

  9. My wife and I just test drove a black SL Passenger. Kids love it, Wife really likes it. No Towing package, but I would order ours in blue with the towing package since it also includes the "Tow Mode" on the transmission.

I've recently been thinking about the SV V-6. We'd only be towing a 3500lb trailer anyway. And the V6 will get better mileage. But no leather or 3-zone HVAC. It's also ~$3000 less.

  10. I see that the V6 doesn't have a towing package option.

I can get an accessory receiver and the Nissan wiring harness/relay kit. No problem.

But what else comes with the towing package?

Does the V6 come with the trans cooler that the V8 has?

I don't need to tow 9000 lbs. The 6200 lbs of the V6 is plenty and the mileage will be better.

  11. We're getting a 3500 SL passenger for road trips/camping. I'm going to start searching the Titan forums for tuners. I do find it odd that the V8 has a taller final drive than the V6. I would think something closer to 3.20 than 3.50 would be better on the highway.
