Update. I have 36000 miles. Van has been great no problems except for a broken windshield washer pump. Gas milage has been the same no major changes there and didn't expect any. I think one thing to take into consideration is how much weight we carry. I have the shelves full of equipment and tools. So I am probably carrying at least 1500 #'s. In the end I am happy with my purchase and plan on running van for at least 100,000 miles. Hope this helps others as I did not have the resources available to me when I purchased my van. I think one guy on here might have posted about his milage but his milage is unique to him because the rest of us poor guys have to deal with the poor gas milage that this van gives us.

I now have 18,000 miles. I took the ladder racks off about 2000 miles ago. My mileage went up approximately 1 MPG. I still have poor gas mileage. My fuely app is telling me that my average is 12.4 MPG and my best tank is 13.7 MPG. Just wanted to update others who might be looking at a NV 1500. I will also add that I have had no problems with the van. The only thing I have done is change the oil and rotate the tires.

Just a follow up with 10,000 miles on my van. 12.4 MPG average

Another reason why I wish I had purchased the V8.

Re-sale seems to be on the low side for these vans. Not sure why these vans don't hold their value. Are you buying or selling? I know I paid around 25,000 out the door for my NV 1500 SV with Navigation and shelving.

Just wanted to update those who have interest. Still averaging 12.4 MPG according to fuely app. The best I have ever had is 13.2 MPG. I have right at 10,000 miles. Still waiting for those 15 plus mpg numbers to start rolling in but does not seem to be happening. Van is great have had no problems. I will update again at 15,000.

Just wanted to give an update. My fuel mileage is still sub par compared to what I thought it was going to be. Never getting below 12 but never getting over 13. I guess it is what it is. I do love the van and I am glad I purchased it. I think it boils down to the city driving and ladder racks plus I keep the shelves full of tools and supplies. I used to drive a truck that would get 10 MPG so the NV is an improvement. On a side note I did have the check engine light come on. I checked it with my OBD reader and it said the code was a transmission communication issue. I reset it and it has not came back on. When I go to the dealer I will let them know.

I received my OBD II Bluetooth scan tool. It shows no problem with any of the vans sensors. I am going to use it to help teach me to drive more efficient. I was hopping I had a bad sensor and that was the problem. When I go to the dealer for my next oil change I will speak with the service tech. Also I am going approximately 300 to 320 miles per tank, a tank being 22 to 23 gallons at fill up. When I fill up my van tells me I have 345 mile to empty. When I first got my van it said 450 miles to fill up, but as I have used it that number has gone down. On another note my last truck a 3500 service body went 250 miles on 26 to 27 gallons of gas. Now that is painful. Maybe I need to reset my computer. Does anybody know how to do that? Do you think it would help?

Wow, I don't get it. 16 - 17 MPG is great. Maybe it is the stop and go driving around town that is the cause of the poor MPG. I have not done any road trips. I will continue to monitor my MPG and I will try to drive with less zest.

axulsuv, I read your post in another forum on this site. I bought my van because I think it is a great deal and your raving reviews of the gas mileage. As you can imagine, I am quite disappointed that the van gets mileage that is well below what everyone even the dealer has told me that it would get. I expected 14 to 16 MPG and I have never seen anything above 13, and it averages 12. So when I read your post about 19 and 20 MPG I have to say that either you are mistaken (maybe your vans computer is wrong) or their is something wrong with my van. Now please don't think I am trying to be a jerk, look at it from my perspective. When I was looking at vans, one of the important things was MPG. I wanted to offset the cost of ownership with better gas mileage. Going from 10 MPG to 14 MPG saves me $150.00 a month. So that 150.00 is almost half of my payment. (I traded in a truck and put 5000 down, my payment is 338.00) I wanted my van to have a low cost for ownership and MPG is one of the cost of ownership. For me I don't understand how 2 vans with the same motors have such a HUGE difference in MPG. I did my research, I bought the van that I thought would fit my needs and it has done a fabulous job in all areas except the poor gas mileage. I will try the down shifting thing. I am running the K&N drop in filter and Mobil one synthetic oil. I am not posting this to offend and I apologize if I have. The low MPG is very frustrating. Thank you for the input. Let me ask you this how many miles are you getting out of a tank of gas?

To calculate your gas mileage reset your trip odometer when you fill up. Or write down your mileage. I prefer to reset my trip odometer. When I fill up the next time I see how many gallons it took to fill up my truck. I then divide the gallons into the miles driven. If you do that every time you fill up you will be able to get an average MPG. Mine seems to range from 11 to 13 MPG. Hope this makes sense.

I ordered the ODBLink MX Scantool. I almost ordered the LX version but I know so little about them that I ordered the more expensive MX. My first tank of gas was 11 MPG. My last two fill ups were 11.5 and 11.3. I have been driving heavy footed and it shows in fuel mileage. I have calculated every fill up and the best I have had is 13 MPG. When I bought my van I thought I would get 14 MPG, and that would save me $150.00 a month in fuel cost. My old 3500 service body would get 10 MPG. I guess the only reason they offer the v6 for the NV is to help keep the initial cost down. Because it does not save me at the pump. If I knew this when I purchased I would have opted for the 2500 with the V8. I hope that my review of the poor gas mileage will help others who might be on the fence about which motor to get. I didn't need the v8 and I thought that the v6 would save me at the pump and boy was I mistaken. I am hoping that there is something wrong and the scan tool will find it, if not I am sure it will help me keep my foot out of the pedal. Thank you Hawkeye77 for the info.

Hawkeye77, Did the CAI help your MPG? Also Which OBD II reader are you using? Is it Bluetooth? I looked at a few on amazon that worked with an app called Torque. I thought I could use it to monitor my MPG. I also thought that if I could monitor my MPG as I was driving that I could maybe learn to drive better so that I could increase my MPG. Their were so many OBD II devices that I did not know which one to get. Did you get your NV from Michael Jordan Nissan? I am sure you will love your new van. I have had mine for a little over 2 months and every time I drive it, --- It makes me smile and is a joy to drive. I have had 0 problems.

I do need the ladders for work. I did not think about them being the cause of my poor mileage. As my son would say: it is what it is. I was just taken back by how bad my mileage was compared to others. Maybe one of those curved wind deflectors that you see on top of the 18 wheelers. I am only using 3 of the 4 mounting points for the ladder racks. Plus I keep my ladders at the back of the truck so maybe I will look into a little wind deflector to help with fuel mileage. Thanks to all for the feed back. If I find something and it works I will post my results.

radin2son, You give me hope. Hopefully my mileage will get better. Some of my lower mileage may be due to having a ladder rack on my van. Not sure if that would be the cause of my poor mileage. I would also like to thank you for your feedback and insight. Wow, Sounds like you live in the middle of no were. 500 miles is a lot of miles. Again, thank you for your replies.
