p0448 EVAP Valve/Solenoid Circuit Shorted

Recommended Posts

I just got code p0448 on my 2013 Nissan NV Passenger.

I have too many miles for any manufacturer warranty.

I found TSB NTB13-102 which talks about adding a filter that will fix the problem, but I already have that filter!

When I looked at the filter it was covered in tan colored dust/sand. So maybe it's clogged?

Do they sell just the filter? Any ideas?

I'm attaching the document for the TSB, so you can see what I'm talking about.

This may clear itself after so many starts The code sounds familiar and was an ongoing issue that was finally solved by fixing the canister, if it is the same one, ($225) vs replacing ($600). The sensor had to be glued in place. Fix common in Titans works 99% of the time.

When we first started having problems in AK, the dealer blamed the placement of the canister and sensor. So it could be dust etc.

Paper work was at home as we were on a "car"

trip. Nice getting 36+ mpg at 80+ mph. The reason for the trip wasn't.

Codes for canister fix were p0441 (purge flow) and p0455 (gross leak - evap). $225.25 to glue the sensor in. In this case the warning light came on and stayed on.

I couldn't find p0448 in any of my paperwork but I still recall this was the code cleared by the dealer in Fairbanks. The check engine light came on several times after that when we drove on wet, muddy or wet then dusty dirt roads. The warning light went away on its own after a set sequence of starts or days. By the time we got back to Tucson there was no code.

We also had the gas cap warning come on when there was no reason. Eventually the gas cap was replaced.

Don't know if this helps you, but the fix may be to just to clean the filter the best you can.

I used compressed air and cleaned the whole area, then took off the tube of the filter and blew air through it.

So far the code is still on, but I haven't driven it much yet.

Could this be the cause of the gas shutting off when filling with fuel?  I have had the code for a while but the gas just started shuttting off recently when I go to fill the tank with fuel.  It is verry frustrating that I have to lightly pull the fuel filler lever to get it to fill.  Anyone have pictures on how to see if the filter is installed?  It has also been very cold recently.

Not only is that the cause, the gas shutting off is how you confirm this error code.

To see if the filter is install start with checking the vin numbers (the TSB says what to look for). You can reach your hand up behind the shield and feel the filter. You can't see it unless you remove the shield.

Note that I have the filter, and the code. For me the problem is elsewhere (probably a bad valve), but it's been too cold to work on it.

Mine has what I believe they consider to be a “filter” on it, behind the shroud on the vent line. I live on dirt roads and constantly get p0448 code, usually because it has been covered in dry mud. I clean it, clear the code, and it will come back days later. I’m wondering if it isn’t something electrical? The code does say circuit shorted. Maybe the valve is bad?
