Seriously considering

Recommended Posts

Hello fellas! It's great to be "in"! As a family of 5 with occasional work-related cargo and towing needs the NVP is the one for us! Several weeks ago we test drove one and loved it. Being that we're in the middle of October, do you guys think 2017s are worth waiting for or should we jump on a beautiful 2016 Java metallic SL 3500 ? Local dealership in central NJ offered it for $ 37,300. We can't afford to wait too long...Grateful in advance for your advice and input!

I would 100% wait on the 2017 models.  Two big reasons:

1) the 2017 gets the newer motor and 7 speed transmission.  Huge power and torque increase along with 2 more gears should equal better driving and gas mileage.  The current motor is a decade old and wasnt all that wonderful when it came out new let alone these days.  It works and works decently but it has a lot of room for improvement.

2) When the 2017's start coming out the 2016's will drop in price if you are more concerned with money and you dont want to try the new motor/trans combo.

I'm in the same boat.

Waiting out for 2017 for 1) new motor/trans combo and 2) see how much 2016 model price falls.

Exactly as ASD Dad said above.

Any idea when 2017 will hit the dealership? Jan?

We just pulled the trigger and got our 2016.  We had a 2012 with the V6 and wanted the V8 to pull our camper.  Wife found everything she wanted in the SL with the exception of the rubber floors the dealer added.  We considered waiting but with no release date for the 2017's in site we made the move on the 2016.

Congratulations,Melbornj and good luck with your new NV ! I hope we're not too far behind you!

Thank you,ASD Dad!You help make the wait more bearable...if Nissan would only announce it already...

What is a "snorkel mod" on a V8?

I have a write up on here but it is a very old mod from the Titan owners that works on any of our 5.6 motors (Titan, Armada, NV).  In a nutshell - pop open your air filter box, remove the filter.  If you look at the bottom there is a "snorkel" that is there for NVH reasons (noise mainly).  Cut that snorkel flush with the box and it really opens up the airspace and uses the filter much more efficiently.  With the snorkel in there if you check your filter it will be dirty just along one edge.  The increase in noise is barely noticeable if at all.
