radin2son Posted June 30, 2017 trucktrend.com has a great article on the $45k conversion (includes the van) by Recon. This has VW style poptop, so it seats 4 and sleeps 4. A mechanical engineer came up with this... Check out reconcampers.com and the videos. There also is a startup rental, Scamper Van for these in the southeast. radin2son Posted July 8, 2017 First there was the RAM City Master conversion, then the NV200 Recon (although NV200s were camperized much earlier in the U.K.) and now the MB Metris. Sportsmobile will convert these for $37k, not including $26-30k for the van. (We paid $65k for our 2012 NV2500 SMB.) Both the NV200 and Metris use a VW style poptop. The NV200 Recon can be build a la carte to keep the conversion buyer specific and keep the cost down. Their poptop is $5k, while the Metris will set you back $10k. Given their size, I think the primary market will be rentals, similar to the green and purple Juicy converted Dodge Caravans you see cruising the west. Escape, another rental company, uses Ford Econolines.
SilverNV Posted March 9, 2018 The Recon campers are very cool but too small for my needs, I have two kids and two dogs and the wife of course!
radin2son Posted March 9, 2018 Great for a solitary traveler. Maybe 1 dog.
radin2son Posted April 7, 2022 (edited) Saw a ‘21 Nissan NV200 Recon ENVY at the Chiricahua National Monument campground. A couple from Oregon was traveling around the southwest. No dog. Small size and lack of power (Sentra engine) wasn’t an issue for them. A lot of great engineering went into the interior and VW style pop top. They had a box on top and racks on the back. This is their daily driver in part due to getting 30 mpg. Their’s possibly was the last (12/2021) NV200 Recon conversion ($36k plus price of van) build. Recon is looking at other small vans to convert. But, if you already own an NV200 and in the process of a diy build, it may be worth a call to see what’s left over in the parts bin. Or, just look at the options list to get some ideas. www.reconcampers.com Edited April 7, 2022 by radin2son 1 Local Apparent Friday reacted to this
