External Temperature Gauge reads 10-20 degrees too low with Climate Control turned on

Recommended Posts

Any ideas for what might cause the external temperature gauge to be 10-20 degrees lower than actual outside temperature, when the Climate Control system is on?

Climate control should have no control over the temp sensor.

I do not know why it is reading so low.  I was going to suggest maybe it had ice on it somehow but I dont think you get ice often in Florida other than this past week or so!

No ice for me, but it did get down to 42 degrees this weekend.

This issue was also happening when the temps were higher, i.e. 90 degrees outside would show 70 on the gauge.

I only noticed this weekend that the temperature reading changed when the climate control was off. I took it to the dealer and they said it everything with the  gauge and the climate control are fine. Then when I left the dealer, the climate control was completely off and the temperature was reading the correct (55). Then I turned on the climate control by pressing the auto button and watched as the temperature gauge dropped to 50, 47, 45, 40, 37, 36, 35 over about 2 minutes. It stayed at 35, then I turned the climate control off and the temperature gauge went back to 50 (not 55 which was the correct temp that it registered earlier).

I repeated this over the weekend multiple times consistently. Great entertainment for me and my wife as we drove from Fort Myers to Orlando and back.

That is really weird!  Please post back if you get it figured out, I would love to know what is causing that!

The dealer is replacing the Control Assembly, part number 27500-1PB0A. It is a special order part that will take 10 days to receive. This is also expected to fix another issue with the dash vents stopping after driving for 20-30 minutes.
