6 cylinder motor not lasting? Wiring harness fire?

Recommended Posts

I have 16 NV2500's on the road and just blew a motor with 126,301 miles on it. The 6 cylinder? Anyone else?

I have had 2 totaled in accidents and lost 2 others to fires. 1 was the wiring harness as we drove down the road. I have yet to have one make 150,000 does anyone have high miles on one yet? Looking to make another fleet purchase and wondering.

I haven't heard of blown motors or fires with these vans.  It makes me wonder what your drivers are doing with them.  Maybe it's just really bad luck, I don't know.

I think a v6 is underpowered for the size of the vehicle. I have no idea about the harness fire, but I can bet you the v8 will last a lot longer since it's not working near as hard.

liveto99, only you can answer this. What vans did you use prior to NVs? Maintenance? Drivers? Use/load/route? Cost to own/lease? Compare and decide...

There have been some mega mile V8 posts but none for the V6 in an NV.

I've got 208,000 on my V6 2500 with no issues. Just went up Mt. Washington and couldn't believe the newer cars overheating on a nice day at 55 degrees. Ran it on the worst roads I've ever encountered on the James Bay Route and Route due Nord through northern Quebec with no issues at all. When I say worst I've driven the Trans Labrador Highway and the Dempster. Great vehicle, getting 18-21 mpg even through the mountains.
