stardreamers Posted May 5, 2013 Hello, I am considering an extended warranty on my new NV 2500 HD. There have been three recalls, and my check engine light stays on due to (according to the dealer) "low battery," while the battery always checks up as good. I have this outfitted as a mobile dog grooming van, and I drive this van about 15000 miles a year. I am personally not mechanically inclined at all. I plan on owning and driving this vehicle for many years. So, I am now wondering, do I buy an extended warranty to cover me while I pay off my 5 year auto loan, or do I save for future repairs in a bank account hoping that nothing serious will happen will about 100k? I am guessing that the engine and tranny are proven, but not the rest of the vehicle. I've already had a window panel pop out on me as well. Between this, the check engine light, and the three recalls, I am wondering if this is up to Nissan's standard of quality, especially as I use this commercially. Any help would be appreciated. axulsuv Posted May 6, 2013 Read the fine print carefully , as most ext. warranties are not warranties at all ! just VERY Specific insurance contracts that cover a few things on the vehicle. Read the coverage details real close and look at all the inclusions and not covered items . There are some good ones available and some are not worth the paper they are printed on ! Buyer Beware !!!!Glenn
stardreamers Posted May 7, 2013 Thanks Glenn, I am realizing from web reviews how true your words are. I would only consider the Nissan Warranty, and I have reduced my option to the prepayed service plan which just gives me regular check ups and service at a reduced rate. That way, if there are any problems, but not official recalls, I can always say that I had me NV serviced at the dealer. Michael
