mattandbrook Posted August 22, 2014 I am baffled by the fact that Nissan doesn't offer a factory rear-seat entertainment option. Yeah, I get it, this is a commercial vehicle, and yeah, I get it that $2k or whatever buys my kids a lot of tablets and apps. There are a lot of big families buying these things, upgrading from Quests or Siennas, who are accustomed to having that rear seat babysitter - myself included. There is a guy in the photo gallery with a pretty awesome setup with four ceiling-mounted screens and an ipad controlling it all, but I can't find anyone locally willing to tackle this kind of install. I guess what I'm looking for is some success stories - head unit replacement, ceiling mounted units, head rest units - surely there are some other clean looking and functional installs out there? Bates Posted August 22, 2014 Your local Nissan dealer might have someone who can do that sort of stuff. About 2 weeks ago I did one 10 inch dvd player mounted in the roof just behind and between the driver and passenger, and 2x8 inch ones mounted on the sliding door side of the headliner in the back. (angled a bit at the rear seats). The back 8 inch screens can play their own dvd's or slave to the one up front. 6 wireless headsets and the ability to run it through FM radio too.The angled screens struck me as odd at first but the installers didn't want to tinker/puncture the HVAC in the roof and it'll work out fine in the end. Customer was happy. Local electronics shops, pretty much anywhere that will install a remote start/stereo system would be a likely place to look. I'm sure there's a wide range of skill levels and results out there though.
nutekit Posted August 26, 2014 Would you mind posting some pics of this install? I too would like to enhance our ride with some option such as this after our 7 hour journey to Northern WI.

xavman Posted September 9, 2014 Wish I was bright enough to remember to grab some pics. Sorry. Next one I sell and put dvd in I'll be sure to grab some for you. Any chance you can give us a little walkthrough tips so us more adventurous types can start strategizing?
Bates Posted September 10, 2014 Hahah. It started with a phone call to the electronics/car start place we use. Can you put in a DVD player in the back of a NV passenger I asked?. They said yes. I said how much. They said 2400. I said ok. Then I dropped the van off to get the work done complete with PO. ******Not much too it from my end of things other than that. As I said it's a larger sceen in front near the passenger/driver seats, two smaller screens in the back. The smaller screens can slave to the front or show independently with a DVD player mounted in there. The screens fold up on the cieling too so they are out of the way when entering the vehicle. There's an FM modulation thing or 6 wireless headsets too. The two 8 inch screens are on the sliding door side, and angled so the rear seats can see clearly. Not too sure what else I can say really. Bates Posted October 14, 2014 Here's a poor shot of the dvd screens I was referring too earlier.
mattandbrook Posted October 15, 2014 Here are some pics of my finished install. There are a number of things I'm not completely satisfied about, here are my misc ramblings. 1. Nothing matches the color of the interior of this thing. Grey is wrong. Tan is wrong. Black is way off. You can really see this in the headrests. 2. I had to replace the backup camera when I replaced the head unit. The new one is better than stock but still not great. The one on my Quest was great plus it had the parking assist lines. 3. The head unit was really the best way to get a 'master' DVD player that I could control. My kids are all little and can't really work the individual ceiling mounted ones. 4. The head unit is a JVC KW-N810HDT. It supports a bunch of different inputs and outputs and smartphones and the like. I have a solid state hard drive in my glove box with a bunch of mp4 files. They play great on the head unit but for some reason this thing doesn't pass those to the rear screen outputs. Stupid software bug imo. 5. The far rear screen swivels, which is kind of important so my 4 year old can see the screen, but it wobbles a lot when tilted. 6. Speaking of the rear screen...there's no good place to put it. Between the dome lights and the A/C vents we had to settle for the least bad option. It kind of works now, it kind of works when the kids are bigger. If I move the seats around again all bets are off. 7. The stock bluetooth phone capability was awful with my Galaxy S5. The new bluetooth phone capability is even worse. I don't know if this head unit is not entirely compatible with the bluetooth on my phone or what. Need to call support. 8. The nav in this head unit is 100x better than stock. Total cost including the steering wheel controls and Sirius setup was $3,350.
