Seat belt woes

Anybody else have problems with the militant seat belt locking on the passenger side?  My wife is constantly complaining about hers locking up.  It doesn't unlock until she unbuckles and let's it snap back.  I also have problems in the 3rd row with my daughter's booster seat.  For what it's worth, my old 06 Titan did the same thing.

Whether or not you have addressed it with a NV dealer, try the "Feedback/Help" topic. I'm not sure what Nissan intended with this, but there is a place to check "solved." So far nothing has prompted a response.

 

Best bet is for Chris, Bates and the master mechanic to address this.

 

06 Titan problem? How did you fix it?

I never did fix it on the Titan.  I just listened to her complain, lol.  She doesn't ride in it much.  The van's a different story.  Never had this issue in any of the Quest seats.

This issue begs several questions. How many components in the NV, or any other Nissan are outsourced? How many components are shared? How effective is quality control at both ends?

 

In matandbrook's case, 2 different vehicles with the same problem. "Locking" seat belts may not be a safety issue, or is it? Explain the problem to the NV service manager, not the service writer. If the service manager can't come up with a fix, both seat belts or whatever is "locking" should be replaced.

I'm going to bring it up when I take it in for the first oil change.  Obviously there are a shitload more Titans around than NV's so if you google 'Titan seatbelt locking' there are all kinds of similar reports.  It seems like getting them replaced fixes the problem.

2nd row sticks once in a while for the kids. maybe 10% of the time. No problems with the front ones so far.

There is what some would call a "inertia" switch/ rachet in the seat belt roller assembly . It reacts to guick pulls/tugs on the shoulder/reel end of the belt . Yours may be a little sensitive . Adjusting the buckle across your lap a little loose  and raising the shoulder slide adjuster to lesson the the angle may help . Or you can clip a clothespin at the top so she has some slack in the shoulder strap . But in reality , the seat belt is functioning as it should ! Try adjusting it correctly first , and if that doesn't help take it to your dealer , you may have a hyper sensitive catch ...

Followup to my issue above, my wife was pregnant with twins at the time and I think that she may have just been big enough to make the belt act strangely.  Now that she has a much smaller midsection the belt seems to be functioning better.  Still have problems with the kids but may be the same sort of thing - they're pulling it past a certain point and it locks automatically until you feed it all the way back in.

My drivers belt is no longer showing a dash warning when left unbuckled and its not easy to lock the belt anymore.

 

Anyone else with this isuue?

 

Also the side slider is hit or miss with unlocking with the remote. Seems like the pin contacts are not all making contact. I thought I read they need to shim the switch assembly to make better contact.

My daughter gets the rear belts locked up all the time. She does this by pulling the buckle and belt almost to its maximum point and then simiply letting go. This, combined with the carseat, acts to either twist or lock out the belt.

 

The typical fix is for me to go back there and yank on it till it pulls free again.

 

Happens approximately once per week.

 

Never had problems with the front passanger belt but I rarely cary people there anyways.
