I had my cables run by an upfitter from the vehicle main battery to the back of my van where I wanted the inverter. I had them do it because it involved putting holes in the floor and I didn't want to drill through anything important or have my cables to short out on any metal. They used a continuous duty relay between the main battery and the secondary. I installed an Optima battery that they recommend for inverter use. $179 @ Autozone. I purchased Tripp-Lite inverter.
