Saz Posted April 4 (edited) Trying to replace the transmission output shaft seal on a 2012 NV2500 V6 with the 5 speed automatic. While I was able to remove the old seal, I'm struggling to place the new seal. I noticed that the output housing has some sort of fingernail thick lip on the outer surface preventing the seal from entering or tearing the new seal all together. Any advice? Ive done other output shaft seals before and never ran into this. Initially I thought it was designed to have the entire extension removed in order to install it but there would be no way to install it the other direction. Even with me delicately placing the seal in and tapping it with a rubber mallet, or a piece of wood. I'm finding the seal is tearing and the miniscule metal lip is also crumbling. The rest of the extension housing and sealing surface is undamaged. UPDATE: I managed to fix it up. It seems my center driveshaft bearing went bad causing a minor wobble in the driveline that wore a groove. I took some sandpaper 80-180-320 cleaned it up and reshaped it a bit, the seal went in the proper way and should hold once everything is back in place.
