dammitjim Posted July 28, 2015 Has anyone changed their oil themselves? I have changed the oil on all my vehicles. If so, does anyone have any tips? I usually have issues reaching into the oil filter, taking it out and making a mess with the oil that comes out. Thanks!
andy_george Posted July 28, 2015 It's quite easy in the NV, something that can't be said for the majority of new vehicles today. When removing the filter there's a nice "funnel" built in that directs most of the oil in one direction, instead of a big slobbery mess. Also, the drain plug is a wierd little copper crush washer, that visibly crushes when tightened. Not sure if that is necessary or not, but my dealer gave me a freebie pack when I told them I do my own changes. Be sure to take time to appreciate the beefiness of everything while you're under there! Good luck! 2 laharview and dammitjim reacted to this

SmokedChops Posted April 9, 2017 Anyone look at remote filter install to add a filter that is larger than a tuna can? Love the van, want to keep the VK56DE grumbling away for a long time. I would love to install a dual filter remote on the frame rail. A spin on transmission filter would make it a trifecta. I will research and share. Great to be here! 1 andy_george reacted to this
mk1_62 Posted April 9, 2017 I'd say it's overkill. Newer engines don't shed metal like old ones. I've noticed filters getting smaller and smaller over the years. Just do some research and buy a good filter, most are wex brand just repainted. When that one company took the van 800k with no engine problems, I would say we're ok. 1 andy_george reacted to this
radin2son Posted October 18, 2017 Shortest period between oil changes. Took my NV in for an “Jim Click Nissan” oil change. I had registered on line, first time, and clicked on the synthetic option. Brought it on in for oil change this morning and non-synthetic oil change done. NV backed out of bay and back in for second, correct oil change. No charge for their mistake... What did I learn? Don’t assume online registration will get what you want. Verbally tell the service advisor you want synthetic oil etc. 2 ASD Dad and andy_george reacted to this
andy_george Posted October 18, 2017 Haha, that's funny! When you go the sell the SMB you can tell the new owner you generally changed oil at like 2,000 miles, since that change took your average WAY down!:) 1 radin2son reacted to this
