  1. I knew I had read about the splash guards in an earlier post. I just didn't realize how much crap accumulated in that area till I checked it. Thanks for the earlier posting.
  2. Thanks for the info. The Sprinter thing seems to be common whit racks and ladders. I did find one from Vantech that is supposed to be built for the NV. It comes in black and looks to need holes drilled. I will check out the you tube video. I can't afford to shell out 1,000- 2,000 on a rack so home made will do. The vantech ladder racks will bolt in factory locations and have 3 cross bars and hardware for about 300. I can connect and fill with expanded metal or slats. Time to warm up my welder. Thanks again
  3. Has anybody installed a door ladder or a spare tire door mount, on their rigs? I have found a black ladder for about 200 and a tire mount for under 100. I wanted to see if there are any issues besides not being able too open the doors all the way. I am going to install an extra tank in the spare area. I will be building a rack for the roof to house solar and shoot from. Racks are a little pricey, so modifying the ladder racks will have to be my option. Any feedback would be appreciated. Will start posting pics soon.
  4. That is the idea I drew from on the dimensions, since we only have one size floor. I can tell you from experience that their products fit very well. I had one in the bed of a 05 Chevy truck with a tall top camper and it worked great. I slept on it without padding, just a sleeping bag. You couldn't feel the ridges in the floor. Great for your knees. The fact you can pull it out and wash it at a car wash sold me. It will be harder to do that with my conversion but the padding and warmer floors will be worth it.
  5. I screwed up. I meant the OUTboard side of the guard. Sorry for any confusion.
  6. I live in eastern Oregon and during the winter everything gets covered in moss and mold. I noticed that my mirrors were holding a lot of water inside the bottom and beginning to mold. While washing the van I noticed the back factory splash guards have a bad design that enables water to collect with road grime and dirt making a great home for rust. I had read something about it in an earlier post. I had 2 inches of water in the guards on the inboard side of the guard. I stuck my finger in and found no drainage holes to the outside. I drilled a 3/16" hole in the bottom of both and in the bottom of both mirrors now they drain freely and can be hosed out to prevent sludge build up. This may be a fix you would like to try. Beats rusted fender flairs.
  7. Has anyone installed the Bedrug in their cargo van? I had one in a pick up with camper shell and it was fantastic. Soft on the knees. I am in the process of a van conversion and will go with that as flooring to save height. My head almost rubs now and with adding plywood to the roof I need all the room I can get. Let me know any experience and feedback with this product. Thanks
  8. Thanks for the info. Have been trying to decide between the delta 70 and Magnaflow.
  9. Has anyone upgraded to dual exhaust? If so what brand and type. Any drone? Cost? kit or custom?
  10. Merry Christmas to everybody. 118 degrees and sunny, I wish. Rainy and in the 30's.
  11. Welcome! There isn't a whole lot of difference in the models when it comes to the cargo vans, not sure about passenger models, but the basic platform out did the other vans I tested. I know you will love it! Towing should be a breeze. The rubber mats are great with dogs and spills. Enjoy the van!
  12. I changed my stock tires with Goodyear wranglers with Kevlar. Goodyear makes a more aggressive tire with holes in the tread for lugs, but the ride and noise is a bit much for daily driving. The ones I bought ride okay , you can feel the tread, but it is not unpleasant, just noticeable. They are quiet and handle well on dry or wet. The originals tended to hydroplane in heavy rain. They are pricey at $960.00 a set but, they will pay for themselves when it snows or on a muddy or sandy road. The sidewalls seam softer so the ride is a little more comfortable and still has the E rating. The factory wheels look stout and if you take it easy on the rocks you should be okay. With a high top any rock crawling would be an adventure I don't think I would care for.
  13. I hate that feeling. A 36 gal. tank would be awesome. I have had other trucks I could go with the oversize tank and that makes a huge difference when towing. I have been in the position you are talking about. I haven't measured the tank area to see what would fit. I don't like the idea of moving the spare to the back door but that maybe the only solution for space. Let me know if you find a viable option. Thanks
  14. Has anyone tried to add an auxiliary gas tank on the 3500 HD cargo hi top van? I haven't had dry enough weather here to crawl around under my rig to check usable area. I'm not sure about warranty issues. It would be nice to extend the mileage on long camping trips.
  15. Yep, dead zones are a problem. If you haven't been to Big Bend you will love it. Last time I was there I filled up in Marathon which is quite a ways north of the park. There was only one place to fuel up in the park when I was there and it was expensive. The park is huge and hilly so I would watch my gas levels. I would have to carry an extra can to be safe with my van, Ha. I don't have the MPG meter in my van just them fuel mileage average read out at the bottom of the cluster. It is only an approximation and I have seen it drop by several miles in a short distance depending on stop and go and hills. I just do it old school and use long hand division. I envy you on the location and the sunrises and sunsets! Just watch out for spiders, scorpions, and rattlers. Post some pics. Have a great time!
  16. Thanks and will do. I lived in Texas and have made the trip through west Texas many times. It can get bitter cold with driving winds and some snow and ice so be prepared. Bad storms blow up quick and high winds, hard rain, hail, and lightning can catch you unaware. Please don't let me scare you, just be vigilant and you will be fine. I don't know if you have ever been there, but, Big Bend is beautiful and the mountains have a nice campground and lodge. Judge Roy Bean's place is good to visit. Gas is plentiful and I-10 is flat and good driving, just long! Have a good time.
  17. Thanks for the info. Very helpful. I am new to Nissan platform, but so far I really like it. Well built and plenty of power. I have always modified my trucks and will put this one through it's paces. The mod looks simple and was kinda what I was thinking about. I will do that mod and check on a way to get more cool clean air in. Thanks again.
  18. I agree about mileage. It is not a major concern. I am building a simple set up as well. Tankless and no AC. I just wanted a platform to get into places I couldn't with a travel trailer or the problem of bottoming out with a conventional class B. I will post pics as I work on it. I have seen some of the pics out there and will do a little stealing of my own. I am glad to find a forum for the NV. Great info and a hell of a van!
  19. I purchased a 2015 3500 HD SL high top cargo van about 4 months ago. I am in the process of converting it into a camper van to get off into some of the more rustic ares here in Oregon. I replaced a Dodge Ram 1500 express 4x4 and R-Pod trailer with it. This van is already proven itself to be more capable than the Dodge ever was. The 5.6 is comparable to the hemi and I was shocked how fast this van will go from 25 mph to 70 at on-ramps. This is a brick but it will scat when needed. I test drove the 2500 and another 3500 with the v6. Very pleased with the stable ride of the 3500 in sharp turns and side winds, it Stays planted. Up here the mountains will eat up the v6 so I opted for the v8. I am impressed with everything but mileage, but when you are 9 and a half feet tall and weigh as much as a whale, you have to expect a trade off. I enjoy the conversion and modification threads and look forward to the forums. Have a great Holiday Season everyone!
  20. ASD Dad,, what was the modification you did to the airbox? I couldn't find the thread. I have gone with the factory fit K&N filter but I was thinking about modifying the housing. I agree about the CAI's . They are loud and help bottom end but mileage is not increased. On previous vehicles I have installed CAI's and exhaust, reprogramming is a must to get anything out of it but then you have to use upgraded fuel and that takes away any MPG advantage in the cost trade off. Since I want this to go on long trips and not high performance I am always looking for ways to help it out. Any info on the modification you did would be appreciated. Thanks
  21. I hear you Rick. I have the 3500 HD and the V8 LOVES gas! I get 8-9 MPG, and that's with me babying the throttle. On the road I can get it to 13. I live in the western part of Oregon and it is very hilly. We have the E10 gas here. The higher the alcohol content the more power but worse gas milage. I don't know if you have E15 but i have had as much as 3mpg difference from state to state depending on fuel and terrain of cuorse. I am lucky and only drive 5K a year so mileage is not a huge issue and since I'm converting mine to an RV for Photo shoots I can live with that. A class B would be about the same MPG. I have gone to a K&N filter and may work on the exhaust. The filter has bumped the mileage up about 1 mile and I change my tires to all terrain which helped a little. I hope dual exhaust will bring it up a mile or two more. My buddy has a Sprinter and it does blow away mine in mileage but, many break downs and very expensive and hard to find parts and has an issue with mountains so I went with the NV with the V8. Besides air, exhaust , and a chip, I don't see us getting more than 10-11 in town and MAYBE 15-16 on the road. I have to agree with possible inflated numbers on mileage reports or strong tail winds or down hill in all directions! Good luck with yours and sorry to hear about the aggravation.
  22. Has anyone seen the You Tube NV Cargo commercial with Carl Weathers and Mickey Rourke? It is called, "The Delivery". Just saw it. I was wondering when the commercials were going to start. There is also a brief, soundless, commercial footage of the Canton assembly plant. Nice to see something about the vans we have. Starting to see more and more cargo vans in the area I live in. Have a great Thanksgiving!
  23. Looks great! I had the same issue and went with the Dometic 50qt. Same foot print as the console but a couple of inches short of the arm rest. Good space saving idea. Enjoy and good luck with it.
  24. Sorry about the confusion. I had rushed through the post and didn't have time to research the website before contacting you. I have just got off the C-TEC website and think the D250S Dual and Smartpass should be a good solution to my issues. I need something I can charge with while driving and supplement spotty solar panel charging especially in cloudy and rainy days we have here. I will insulate my battery bank for fans, lights, a radio and maybe a cooler or go with a Pelican cooler. Thanks for getting back to me.
