  1. Are you sure they didn't send the wheels with the wrong offset (0 mm offset)? I have 17x8.5, 10 mm offset and 245/70/18 tires. So my outer edge of the rim should be 10 mm closer to the door than yours and 1/2 tires width (10 mm) should compensate for the difference. So with your set-up, you should have a gap very similar to mine.

As you can see, the gap between the tire and the door is definitely larger than on mine than on your set-up.

  2. Sorry if the answer to my question is either obvious or already answered. I've read the entire thread above but don't understand any of the technical stuff on there. I really know nothing about cars.

There is someone on a different thread that has these wheels: 285/55/20 Nitto Trail Grappler M/T on a 20x9 wheel.

Can these can be put on an NV without a lift?

Looking at the set-ups of Lj1983 and JCattSS, I would say  that size should be fine as long as the offset of the wheel is not too low. Aim at something around 20 mm or higher.

  3. Look at JCattSS's gap picture and mine above. They look to be very close.

    Here is a comparison:

Mine: 10 mm offset, 8 & 1/2 inch width with 245 mm tread width

JCattSS: 20 mm  offset, 9 inch width with 275 mm tread width

Since 1/2 of 1/2 inch width difference between these two wheels is 6.35 mm, the outer edge of my wheel is 3.65 mm further out than his.

Since his tread width is 30 mm wider than mine, 1/2 of this (15 mm) will affect the distance to the sliding door (gap).

If the tread width directly impacts the tire position, you would expect the gap in his set up to be 11.35 mm (15 mm - 3.65 mm) smaller, which clearly is not the case. I think what's happening is that it's the side bulge of the tire that affects the gap, not the tread width. In other words, the width of the tires is more forgiving than the offset and the width of the wheels.

In short, I think you will be fine with 18 mm offset wheels 9 inch width with 285 tread width. You will be close though. I would not go with 305.

Edit: You may run into bit of difficulty with the diameter of 285/60/20. This size is three inches larger (33.5 in) than the stock tire. Widthwise, you should be okay. Perhaps you should go with 385/55/20.

  4. I don't have any experience with roof rack, but I want to welcome you to the forum nevertheless. Since we have a utility trailer, the urgency to get a roof rack is not really there for our situation. But when we eventually get one, we will probably go with Aluminess (or maybe someone else will offer a better option).

  5. Thanks for the input.

My wife and I sat down and estimated that our yearly mileage to be substantially higher than our previous estimation of 8k. Since we still have almost new stock tires, and since wife seems to be very happy with DuraTrac's winter performance, we decided to get a second set of wheels. American Bunker and we had stock tires mounted on them.

Wife loves the wheels, but hates the stock tires' looks. Well, she just has to wear them out, haha.
