Strange but it happened to me on the driver side also. Not on an adventure but at the carwash. the guides that direct your tires to go down the track rubbed the brackets on the driver's side step. I got them straight again and now I know what to watch out for.

Any in-channel options? I prefer to not stick it to the outside.

I had a similar experience and after the paint peeled off the brackets used gorilla two-sided heavy duty foam tape that will hold up to 30 lb it hasn't come off yet but it is starting to slowly peel away. What I'll do now is gently warm up the plastic material and flex it a little bit to relieve some of that pressure.

Happy update on my issue, It wasn't Beastie's fault. The 7-to-4 pin connector I had was faulty, the ground was corroded. Replaced it with a new one before we left and all works as planned. Next project... Install my brake controller before the end of April
