Speaker upgrade with stock nav head unit
iowarhino replied to Isstatu1's topic in Audio & Navigation
I added a powered subwoofer to the back door of mine but its Pioneer head unit. I ran the wires when i had it apart for soundproofing, then mounted the sub on the door. Also added a front camera just above Aries Bull Bar so I can see front area for parking in tight spots or on trails. I had trouble uploading pics before but here is a few. I also took out factory backup cam and added the one crutchfield sells that goes in the rear light at top of the back doors. it works AWESOME and has 3 levels for tilting/angle and allows you to switch to camera view during driving to check on whatever you are pulling. -
MarioC - did you get the plug yet and did you have any issues with install? Thanks for the link, I just ordered one too as the best price I could get was $150-ish for separate parts..........heater from infinity and the cord from nissan (ans nissan discontinued the heater). update: i got the heater from Gspec and installed it yesterday, works like a dream. good notes from @xavman above....... the 12MM allen socket worked perfect and it was pretty tough breaking the plug loose but then rest was easy for install. It was -5 temp last night so it was started alot happier this morning (sits outside but i have a Viper remote start).

Speaker upgrade with stock nav head unit

EnigmaMan................I tore the whole back end apart and sound proofed inside and out, the sliding door, the driver and passenger door. All i have left to do is between headliner and the roof. But just with the back done, it made a HUGE difference on our summer road trip (7 states and just shy of 2400 miles). I could hear the kids talking all the way in the back without shouting while driving 75 with all terrain tires. I also upgraded speakers and new head unit. sound material i used: 1 - this stuff i used for rolling on the bare metal closest to the interior trim panels (you can see the dark black in the pics) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BKKZ1AM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2 - this stuff i used inside the wall compartments and stuck it on the "inside of the outside" wall of the van https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FYLM47D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 with 1 box of the roll-on stuff and 2 boxes of the thicker just adhesive stuff I was able to do the entire rear of the van, back doors, sliding door, and both driver/passenger door. My wife IMMEDIATELY noticed that the van stayed cooler inside when running AC and didnt get as hot sitting in the sun turned off in a parking lot making it easier to cool down faster (and it will get even better when i get the headliner/roof part insulated). I put Alpine speakers in the rear 6x9 spots and also put in Alpine components in the front for the driver/passenger door and the tweeters on the dash. I installed a Pioneer AVIC-5201 head unit which proved to be the most challenging trying to get all the wires connected in the right spots. Crutchfield bailed me out a couple times with great customer service, but I was also able to find a shortcut to wiring the reverse gear signal for backup cam auto turn-on. Soundproofing took me an entire day (by myself, could shorten it quite a bit with a helper) and the head unit replacment would prob be about half a day minus the wiring issues i ran into (someone has posted on here a great MS Word doc of the instructions how to get the dash apart and I'd give them an A+). -
I am fortunate to live in a major city where there is multiple Nissan dealers but the one closest to my home location that sells NV's I am not sure I'd take it there for service. I've called service department a few times with questions and you'd think I was calling about some prototype vehicle to get to space. I work in a diesel engine shop and fix my own cars (gas) so i know vehicles enough to explain things but the unhelpfulness/lack of knowledge was annoying. I went to the Nissan website, paid for 1 day subscription, and was able to download all the technician PDF's for the 2015 NV 3500 and saved them to a USB flash drive. There is over a 1000 pages of info and breakdowns, torque specs, virtually everything.

Speaker upgrade with stock nav head unit

Did you attach the sound deading material to the plastic panels or did you attach to the metal of the van and cover up the "access" holes? Do you have any pics of what you did? Thanks! Looking at doing a speaker upgrade/subwoofer/amp but keeping the stock head unit for now and but would love to deaden outside noise/seal up the vehicle first! -
Wheels and tires that fit (no mods) on 2016 NV3500 SL
iowarhino replied to NV35002016's topic in Wheels & Tires
after reading all the posts, I went with 18x9 Raceline Assault Black Wheels with +18 offset. I saw that +20 or +25 were better/preferred but I took a risk for wheel design i liked. I will say the sliding door opens all the way and just barely brushed the tire. I will add a couple washers to the sliding door bracket and that will fix the rub. I went with Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires that were 265/70 R18 and I love the look of them and the softer ride. My vehicle is 2015 NV 3500 HD SL that just had factory wheels/tires still on it. (*one followup - i bought tires and had them put on at Discount Tire. They ran into an issue I saw in other threads about if the wheel has 2 valve stem holes (which mine did) the inside valve stem will get pulled out by brake caliper when wheel goes around. They figured it out the hard way, then ended up installing flush mount valve stems on the inside and so far so good. It will not work to invert a normal valve stem as the pressure inside was too much that it bled back out the valve.) -

so these have been on for over a year..........any complaints or issues? did putting on the more aggressive tires change your fuel mileage much? does the different wheels/tire combo change your speedometer at all and what do you do about that? Looking to put same size wheels and same size/brand tires that you listed on my 2015 SL. different style wheel but same size/offset but wanted to know if you had any issues after running that combo. Thanks! -
Luverne Grip Step review - With Photos

Has anyone tried to put on running/step boards that fit the Nissan Titan or just gone by length and installed custom ones? I dont like most of the options for NV 3500, and want something that is full length on both sides and not just the passenger side. Have a 2015 NV 3500 SL- 3 replies
