Hello all, This is my first time here. And I am brand new to the concept of RV'ing, other than seeing friends do it. My wife and I have 5 kids (ages 10, 10, 10, 9, and 7) - 4 boys and 1 girl. We are considering RV'ing for the next few years to see the country. We are also in a place where we need to replace our 9 year old minivan with a new vehicle in the next year or so. Our first choice right now is the Nissan NV Passenger 3500 SL. With the 8700 lb. towing capacity, we are thinking that we can tow a pretty big RV that could sleep 7 people. I noticed that you can get an optional Class IV weight-distributing hitch with the SL 3500, and it seems like that is what we would need. Here is my questions: 1) Does the plan sound reasonable for our situation? 2) What is the maximum dry weight for an RV we should be looking at? Our plan would be to leave 7 seats in the NV passenger van and take out the rest. 3) I noticed that the NV has a tongue weight limit of 870 lbs. Some RVs distribute 12-14% of their weight onto the tongue, so for a 6,000 - 7,000 lb. RV, we could be exceeding the tongue weight. Is the 870 lb. tongue weight an absolute limit? Or is that increased by the weight-distributing class IV hitch? Would it be better to get a non-factory hitch? 4) We would like to take the RV cross-country, which definitely means some mountainous terrain along the way. What is everyone's experience towing that much weight up hills with a car full of 7 people? Will we be OK with this plan or are we not thinking about this the right way? Thanks so much for any advice you can offer. We like the looks of the NV reasonably well enough and its utility seems fantastic for our purposes. If you have experience towing a big RV, I'd love to hear your setup. Thanks, Fred

Hi everyone, I am working on a safety partition for a Nissan NV High Roof cargo van (late model year) and need access to a van for a few hours. Anyone in the Montreal area that can help out? Willing to compensate. Thank you!

Hey all - I have a 2012 NV and I noticed that the satnav radio is lacking in the ability to stream bluetooth audio. I noticed that the NV200 and Sentra have a similar radio that includes the 'nissan connect'. Does anyone know if these would evenly swap if I could get a hold of one?

I get "hit" most often when I go grocery shopping. Last week, as I was loading bags thru' my side door, 2 older men came up and got into deep conversation about DIY campervan conversion. I probably talked to them for 15 minutes. Near end of convo, there's a late 20s gal waiting to talk to me. SHE wants to do a DIY, has an online job and a 3yo child.. so ready to hit the road! I talked to her another 10 minutes. I really think I need a flyer or brochure or something! LOL.

So I work with the all NEW Scott Clark Nissan in Charlotte NC. I know that I probably shouldn't be trying to sell anything in this forum, but I just wanted to share this video we did on this newly decked out NV. Im new to the Nissan world and don't know a whole lot about these vehicles, but what the dealer did to this thing is pretty darn cool. I hope that you enjoy this video and if you have any interest in it at all let me know. I hope to be a helpful part of the forum and look forward to your comments and suggestions on this amazing vehicle. Again, enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lZ9dQAsk0I

Photo showing the 13 feet mark from the back hitch face. Vertical Black line is approx 13 feet from hitch. This is a low roof NV 3500 HD Passenger model. Note the windshield is curved from side to side meaning 13 feet will not hit the windshield at the center of the vehicle, but will be just overhanging at the edges. -

Ok , here's the scoop, I bought my NV on 9/12/12. No tech package. Options at time of purchase were rear sonar, back windows and floor mats. Had new general contractor shelving package installed during the promotion last year for free. I installed a new K&N air filter at time of purchase. I'm as service tech in my own business and travel all over the State of Montana. Gas Mileage: Assuming the engine is running at peak performance there are three variables in determining your highway gas mileage on any vehicle. Wind resistance, car speed and tire pressure. On a flat highway with little to no head wind, going 70 MPH on cruise control I get an easy 17.5 MPG. Not Bad. I have about 1,200 lbs on board such as tools, parts and including my body weight. I never got this mileage on my 2007 Ford Econoline.. In the city I average 15 to 16 MPG and I drive the speed limit and don't lead foot it at stop lights. Comfort: Only van I've had in the last 18 years where I can stretch my legs out straight while on the highway. This makes a big difference in reducing fatique. It took about one month to get used to the side mirrors. This van drives like a new truck yet it's a van. After getting the shelve package in whatever noise I heard from the cargo area disappeared. Road noise is a little better than the Ford Van. Love the driver side electric seat. Four speaker sound system is ok. I do like the stock radio and cd player. Nothing fancy but it sounds ok. The heating and AC are good. More fan speed selections. The ford had a low, medium and high speed only. Van Cargo Area: Best inovation here is the box like shape . Shelving fits flat against the walls giving me about 8 more inches in the isle way between shelving. 273 degree Rear doors are a good inovation. With the new ford vans it's an option. Warranty Repairs: New passenger side door gasket. Performance: Just enough speed and acceleration on the highway when it's needed. Handles good in town and out. Looks: It took me about a month to get used to the overall looks of this van. Reminds me of a whale. However I've had more people come up to me and ask me about this van due it's unusual body style. Well that's the bare bones it. It's a good vehicle and $2,500 cheaper than a new ford E250 with the same options and the NV came with a free $ 2,400 shevling package.
