Hi there, i picked up a new NVP 3500 SL and noticed lots of rust on the roof. it will not wash off. Nissan dealer says its rail dust. anybody heard of such a thing? Did anybody have the same problem?

So my brother in law who restores old Mustangs reacted all shocked when I told him about the van conversion and he found out that I hadn't put an undercoat underneath the NV. I didn't even know that was a thing... He is trying to convince me that I need to undercoat the van asap to prevent rust especially since they salt the roads here in Tahoe. Any thoughts? Is it really necessary? Being from Germany where roads are salted and wet for many many months and the climate is quite wet I haven't heard of anyone with a new(er) car having rust issues. I thought that was a thing of the past. So, is he just being paranoid based on his work with old rusted-through Mustangs or should I consider an undercoat? Thanks!

So, I was looking out my second story bedroom window down at my NV and it looked like something was on the roof of my van. I thought it was a leaf so I went down and opened up the side door and peaked over the roof and flicked off the "leaf" only to discover that it wasn't a leaf but a chip of paint that has curled up. I'm having the dealer look at it tomorrow. The vehicle is less than a year old. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it may have been from bird poop that didn't get cleaned off? If that is the case, I know bird poop is acidic and bad for paint but christ we have gone away on vacation to come back to a rogue bird poop that dried on my wife's dark blue Cadillac and that left like a slight outline in the clear coat or something, this is insane. In the lower left corner where the paint is totally missing is a spot weld. In fact you can see all 4 spot welds in the photo. Am i crazy to think that bird poop (assuming that is what happened) shouldn't strip the paint down to the bare metal?

So I was walking out of lowes and was checking out a NV cargo and saw on the bumper this bolt is starting to rust (low grade SS bolt maybe?) Anyways, so when I got back to my van I checked on mine and it was starting to rust as well. Anyone know how to handle this? I don't want it to get any worse and the other van I saw had streaks of rust coming down the bumper :(
