Van sightings

Recommended Posts

I'll play, saw one Christmas day heading North on I95 in SC pulling a small camper. It was dark blue or black. First time I've seen one pulling a camper. We were heading South pulling our big camper.

Thanks. Other sites use this as a way for like minded users, similar to walking around a campground and chatting with other campers. Drives my wife crazy when I'm chatting instead of completing some chore... our dogs recognize this behavior and get comfortable.

Saw a java (I think that is what it's called) NVP going west on I-10 near Benson on our way to the Chiricahua NM. Woman driver definitely was looking at our NV going east. What the...is that?

At the campground, we met a couple from Idaho who had a year old class C Mercedes built by Pleasureway ($140k). It had a murphy bed on the driver's side just behind the cabin. When up, there was a sofa and storage under the sofa. Might work in a NV build. He reported he was getting 14-16 mpg.

One more try...

Saw a high top white NV, possibly a diy camper conversion, with NC plates heading north on I-15 from Mesquite, NV to Saint George, UT. Thought she, the driver, might be headed to Zion NP, where we are now. Cold and windy...

I see several NVP's now vs. when I bought mine.  Back then I saw 2 total and one was a shuttle for the local Westin hotel.  I see a lot of cargo vans but they've always outnumbered the NVP.

When travelling I still see more Transits vs. Nissans.

Do you all wave at each other?  Most of my fellow NVP owners will give a wave when driving by.  Not quite as much as when I rode my motorcycles but definitely more than any other vehicle I have driven.

I did, but not sure other driver noticed. I'm sure it is the same all over.

On rural roads you wave at everyone, even if it is the minimalist wave not letting go of the steering wheel. Not sure how to describe that without conjuring up the wrong type of wave, but you know the wave I mean...

I definitely give a wave, or at least a head nod, when passing the other NVPs around my area.  Most of the other drivers wave as well.....I guess we're officially like Harley riders, or Jeep owners.....or even apparently Toyota Tacoma owners wave at each other.

Speaking of the motorcycle guys, it's common for Harley riders to hold out their left fist down at an angle as they go by each other as a "cool" wave I guess.  There was a kid in my town who had a scooter who would ride by doing that as well to the guys riding Harleys.......it was hilarious.

While dispersed camping in Kaibab National Forest near Tusayan, AZ I saw another NV cargo Dark red or brown. Anybody here?

This is an odd one. We pulled up for gas at Flying J in Winslow, AZ and there was white camperized (?) High Top NV also getting gas. After maneuvering around all the ride/left side fillers, I pulled into to the pump on the other side of his. I was just about to say hello when he got into his NV and left...

Now, I usually notice other NVs and have never been this close to another owner not in a campground, but what happened? I was scruffy from day 17 of an 18 day camping trip, but had just showered and had on clean clothes. Did I need the official wave? No time.

Met 2 NV campers, one in a NV SMB in the Tetons and the other a dyi near White Sands.

Hello, if you read this.

Saw a red (1st time, great looking) NVP towing a very fast looking boat west of Tehachapi, CA on 10/1. Saw many commercial vans including one that looked like a cutaway box version or it could have been an optical “wrap” illusion.

Still find it hard to believe people still ask “What is that?”

SUNDAY, the 28th JAN, 2018, spotted tramming hard eastbound I-8 in Southern Cal between El Cajon & Golden Acorn Casino, a silver NVP with plates reading VANLIFE. That was me you passed, was that you?

I see more and more around me lately.  There is a white passenger SV driven by a mom at my kids school.  I see her in car line daily now.  There is a new Java down the street from me I see often.  The dad waves when he is driving, the mom wont.  I have seen a red and blue one quite a bit lately.

On our cross country trip I saw maybe 6-8 total!  Seriously.  We looked too just out of curiosity.  It was definitely not more than 10!  Figure over nearly 6000 miles we would see more.

I saw a nice Advanced 4x4 SL with Aluminess rack, ladder, lights and a lift with big wheels and tires at our hotel at Disneyland.  I never did see the family and I looked daily in the morning and evening.  They never moved from their spot the entire time we were there.

On a trip to and from the Grand Canyon, saw at least 6 commercial use NVs. No NVPs.

Strangest was a Roto Rooter NV 1500 at the Mather campground on the south rim. Thought they were doing a RV call or something to do with the bathrooms. No, just 2 guys and their friendly pit on some sort of adventure. Louisiana plate.

On an “off the radar” (VW) trip to Santa Fe, we saw a dozen or more cargo NVs in the area of Albuquerque and Santa Fe. As my wife says, “All working girls.” There is a Commercial dealership in Albuquerque

Also saw many Amazon MBs being delivered, 3 to a flatbed. Someone in Tucson told me there were 20 at the local dealership. Was surprised to see a Sprinter ad on TV. Made in America with choice of gas or diesel starting at $33k.

Just when I thought we were the only NV on the highway, we saw a white NVP pulling a RV on I-8 east of Yuma. Shortly thereafter a white high top...

Saw 3 NV 200s near Parker, AZ.

Add 1 white standard top cargo NV.

So so we were the only silver NV...
