  1. I had this same problem on my 2017, the dealer told me there was a design flaw with the fan clutch. They got me a new one last October (had to wait about a month on the parts), and the problem has been gone since. Looks like most people with the 2017 5.6 have the same issue.
  2. My 2017 did this too - was fixed when they reflashed the computer. It was really annoying. By the way, that occurred at the same time I had to have my fan clutch replaced because it would get stuck in the "full on" position.....sounded liked a jet engine when it would be on. I also had the white nylon gear shift lever guide fall out....went to shift into drive one day and it fell down and hit my leg. Dealer put it back in for me, hasn't been a problem since.......have no idea how it could fall out in the first place.
  3. Hello up there in the Great White North! 1. Gas Mileage - We've had our 2017 V8 NVP for about 3 months now. Average of 20 fill ups is 14.7 mpg. The best was 19.5 on a road trip with pure highway miles! But yeah it's not great -- but the V6 isn't much better, so I've heard. I'll say this: the feeling of driving the V8 is excellent....never did I think I would be driving a 3 ton behemoth full of people and actually feel "fast." The V8 has punch. Whatever little bit extra we pay in gas is worth it, to me. 2. 28 gallons. The "range" has shown anywhere between 375-450 miles right after fill-up, depending on how the driving was during the tank previous. 3. Nope! You have to take them out. The single seats are easy, the double seats are a bit heavy. 5. Got mine for about 41k USD...it's the SL model though. And I suck at negotiating. 6. No used ones here either. Not a high volume seller, and the people that buy them tend to keep them. (which is a good testimonial). 7. There are some seat slot covers that come with the van, but not enough! I need to buy some more -- apparently the dealer can sell them. 12. Climate Control -- we have to have the AC cranked full blast when it's been 90 degrees F or more. It does get cool enough, but you have to crank it. Makes sense when you think about it....it's the size of a small RV inside. 13. Been great in rain so far...unknown about snow. I've heard some don't like the standard Firestone Transforce tires in snow. I'm planning on seeing how they do this winter -- I might be buying some new tires if they don't do well. 14. 245/70/17 (I think). I've seen them around here starting for about 200 a tire or a little less. Standard for HD truck tires. 15. No subscription for the navigation, but I have seen some complain about the maps when they become out of date. I will say, we really like our radio and navigation system. We've never had a vehicle with a touch screen system before, so it's all great to us. I think they have improved the latest system over the older ones. 16. Get the V8. 17. Love the van -- great for our family. We have 5 kids. It's a conversation starter just about everywhere you go: What is that thing? How many seats are in it? And when you drive it, you feel like the king of the road. It's just a solid feeling vehicle. I've had a couple of "initial quality" issues that I've had to go back to the dealer for: The sliding door, and an oxygen sensor. But I don't care, I love this van. You won't regret it. Matt
  4. 4500 miles on our 2017 V8 NVP. I keep track of mpg every tank. We had mostly city driving for the first 3000 miles, and we got anywhere between 11.2 and 14.1 mpg. Just got back from a 1500 mile road trip -- filled up a total of 5 times. 4 of the tanks had mixed highway and some driving off of the highway, got between 16-17 mpg on all of them. One tank (on the way back) was exclusively highway miles, and we got 19.5 mpg. I was impressed. We were going 75-80 mph the whole time. Which by the way, this van is so smooth and comfortable sitting at 80 mph.....like it's barely working at all.
  5. Just wanted to give everybody an update on the mpg of the new 2017 V8. Took our 2017 NVP on its first road trip, about 600 miles each way. On the way there, I didn't get a good "all highway" tank. Had about 50 miles of non-highway driving on each end, but was able to get 16.6 and 16.7 mpg on the two tanks the way there. On the way back though, I was able to get a full highway tank, filled up at the truck stop, got on the highway, drove 300 miles and filled up again. On that one I got 19.5 mpg! 75-80 mph the whole way. So, I think the new 7-speed might be assisting with that over the older 5-speed. Not sure I've seen many people get close to 20 mpg.
  6. I definitely give a wave, or at least a head nod, when passing the other NVPs around my area. Most of the other drivers wave as well.....I guess we're officially like Harley riders, or Jeep owners.....or even apparently Toyota Tacoma owners wave at each other. Speaking of the motorcycle guys, it's common for Harley riders to hold out their left fist down at an angle as they go by each other as a "cool" wave I guess. There was a kid in my town who had a scooter who would ride by doing that as well to the guys riding Harleys.......it was hilarious.
  7. Took my 2017 out and paid attention earlier today: 1600 rpm at 60 1800 rpm at 65 2000 rpm at 70 How does this compare to the older NVs?
  8. Next time I drive on the highway I'll take note, but off the top of my head at 60 mph, my 2017 is around 1500-1600 rpm.
  9. Good point about any business being as good as its worst worker. I think I'm just glad that the two things that have happened have been easy fixes. What were your alignment issues? I'm in the same boat about the van though, I love it. It felt great driving it back home from the dealer yesterday.
  10. Dropped the van off last night, was fixed this morning. I didn't get a lot of good information, other than they told me that a cable had been improperly installed from the factory, it came loose, and that obviously caused the issue. If the dealer is correct, this is now the 2nd issue in the first month/1700 miles that was "not installed properly at the factory." Not sure how normal this is, but not exactly confidence-building!
  11. I've seen numerous posts on here about sliding door issues.....mine seems to be similar to some but not quite! Just bought our 2017 NV 3500 a little over a month ago (just made my first post on here a couple of weeks ago). About 1600 miles on the van. Two days ago, my wife calls to tell me that the interior lights won't turn off while they're driving down the road. I ask if she got all of the doors closed, and she said that the door ajar light was on. Had her try re-closing all of the doors, still on. So, it definitely is the sliding door. What happens is when you try to close it, it doesn't quite close all of the way. Actually, it kind of will if you slam it, but then the back "pops" back open about 1/2 of an inch. This is the same as a previous poster I saw from 3-4 years ago. The door doesn't squeak when driving like some others, and it can't be opened when locked (setting off the alarm, like some others). It just doesn't close all the way, and when you try to lock with the key fob, the horn won't beep. But the door still locks anyway. So I take it in to the dealer earlier today. They figure out that if you manually lock the door prior to closing it, the door will close and latch just fine. However, if the door is unlocked, it won't work. It worked fine when closing it while unlocked for the entire time we've had it, obviously. The dealer sent me home tonight with it, and are going to call the tech center tomorrow and see what the fix could possibly be before tearing it open. After I got home from the dealer today, my wife remembered that on the drive before the door wouldn't close, she heard something "drop" from the area by the door, what she said sounded like a bolt or something, but at the time she thought it was from outside the car, or a rock or whatever. So maybe something came unscrewed inside? The person that had the problem of the 1/2 gap at the back of the door like I do, seemed to solve the problem by inserting shims or washers and then it worked fine. Seems like this isn't the problem here, but I dunno. For those of you that know, where the heck do you put the washers anyway? I'm expecting the dealer to fix the problem, but if I can help them along with the fix I'll get out of this without 4 trips to the dealer and entire Saturdays shot.
  12. We're not unhappy about the MPG either, we knew it going in. Not a big difference between 12 and 14 anyway.....may as well enjoy the horsepower.
  13. Hello all! Been meaning to write my first post on here but I've been pretty busy. Bought our 2017 NVP 3500 SL about a month ago, and we love it. We're a family of 6, soon to be 7 (in about 3 weeks!), and we'd been planning this purchase for awhile. We moved from a 2011 Grand Caravan, which just wasn't going to be able to hold 5 kids and their carseats (and their stuff). Our oldest is 6, so he's still in a high-back booster. None of the "normal" 8 passenger vehicles on the market just don't have any more space. Pilot, Traverse, Sienna, even the Suburban just doesn't give enough interior space....I'm sure many of you already know that and that's why you're here. We did look at the Transit, but honestly never even test drove one. The Nissan just looks so much better, it's actually pretty imposing and "bad" looking in the black color we got it in. And we want to someday get a travel trailer, and the Nissan had the much better towing capacity. There were a few cons we were afraid of going in. That it would drive like a barge, that we couldn't park it, and that the gas mileage would bankrupt us. I can tell you that it actually drives a lot "smaller" than I expected, no different than any full size truck.....which when I thought of it like that was a "duh" moment, because it's based on a full-size truck. I will say the side mirrors are outstanding, and really make it easy to see everywhere around you while in traffic and on the highway. Also lets you see the lane lines and/or edge of the road which helps a lot. As far as gas mileage, I see some of you have been asking about how the 2017 with the new 5.6 and the 7 speed have done. Well, we are averaging 12.6, with each individual tank of: 13.8, 12.6, 11.4, 11.6, 14.1, 12.9. Have put on about 1400 miles so far. We definitely tend to more city driving, and this is used on the daily school run, so there is quite a bit of time spend idling in the school line, and going through town. The 14.1 tank was achieved with a bit of highway driving thrown in. I think with 100% highway driving, it would get somewhere around 16. We'll find out in a couple of months, we have a road trip planned. Decided to go for the 2017 because of the new tech powertrain.....as a guy it was hard for me to pass up the 60 extra horsepower, even if we don't really "need" it. There was a new 2016 SL on the lot in black, for about 3k less.....go ahead and call me stupid for passing it up, but we just wanted the "new" new car. For those of you that ask, I got about 500 bucks off of sticker, but I'm not a hard negotiator. If you can't tell, I don't worry too much about a few bucks here or there, and I DESPISE buying cars from dealers, I just want to get it done and get out. I would do cartwheels if I could order online and never go to a dealer. There was one "bad" thing of interest I should tell the group. We were driving around on a Sunday afternoon, the day after we bought it, just clicked over 100 miles on the odo. Check engine light comes on. I did the obligatory gas cap check (gas cap cable sucks, by the way), didn't do anything. I have an OBD scanner, but because it was a new car I didn't bother and took it in Monday morning. The dealer tripped over themselves apologizing, and checked it out right away. Turned out that one of the oxygen sensors was not plugged in all the way from the factory, which obviously threw a code quite quickly. Got fixed, haven't had any problems since. Kind of annoying, but hey these things happen. I feel comfortable with this thing having the long warranty. The other bad stuff: all 324 seating configurations, but none of them allow the 4 across in the 3rd row. This would be a dream configuration (seen others on here say the same thing). If anybody has done a successful mod I'd love to see it. Also, they don't provide enough seat rail covers from the factory. We currently have the 4th row out, with the 2nd and 3rd rows in the "extra legroom" configuration. We're short 4 of the shorter covers. No mirrors on the visors....what is this, 1962? I know it's a "commercial" vehicle, but dang it Nissan, it can't be hard to put mirrors in there. Bought two clip on mirrors from Walmart for 3 bucks each that work fine....but it looks tacked on. My wife thought it was so dumb that it didn't come with mirrors. Also, the hard plastic on the center console sucks, we want to buy a pad for that.....again I know it's a commercial vehicle, but even those guys would want a comfortable place to put their arms. Other than that, we love it! We love the leather interior, and being able to get all the features that you get in a big full size van like this. And the space! So refreshing to be able to get between each row, and we can put all of our stuff in the back. First time we've ever had a touchscreen or a backup camera, and honestly we're amazed at how big the screen is and how clear the picture is. If you've had bigger I guess this one is disappointing, but it's great for us. And it's so smooth and easy to drive. Thought it would drive a lot worse and rougher than it does.
