  1. Hello! We bought a 2016 NV 3500 recently and noticed that the sliding passenger door won’t stay open when the vehicle is parked on even a slight incline. I’ve tried looking around online to find a solution or even a parts manual but haven’t had much luck. Does anyone have any idea how I can remedy this?
  2. Want to thank everyone who posted photos and descriptions of what they did to fix the problem! A few days ago, I added the details of my sliding door saga to @Nancy's post. @aztec replied saying that the fix described by Nancy (tighten the tension on the wire to the middle latch by adjusting the sliding bolt) is a known solution. So decided to try it. Here's what worked for me: I adjusted the tension about 5 times and the door wouldn't budge from the inside or outside...was ready to give up. In one last attempt, I tried (from the outside of the) pushing the bottom of the door with my foot so it sat flush w/ the side of the van; and, at the same time, pull on the handle...the door slid open. This last maneuver would have been much easier with two people. Have opened and closed the door about 20 times and each time making sure that I used enough force so that the door closed completely flush with the outside of the van wall. Clearly, the door was jammed somewhere so I'm not sure which fix worked -- the bolt or pushing the door flush and pulling. Maybe the combination????
  3. Is there a known issue with the sliding door not opening reliably? Every 10th time or so the door won't open. Basically when pulling the exterior door handle or pressing the interior button to open it there is no resistance in the door handle and it doesn't "grip" anything. It takes many locking and unlocking cycles with the remote key to rectify. Sometimes takes 10 or 15 tries before the mechanism works again. Even when the sliding door opens there is a lot less grip on the door handle compared to the two regular doors. Basically there is very little reistance and one has to pull the door handle all the way before anything happens, sometimes even pull two or three times before the mechanism opens the door. Is this a known issue?
  4. I’m researching for an electric motor kit for the sliding door on my 2016 NV3500. Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket kits for the sliding door?
  5. So I put some wheels and tires on the NV 3500 and the sliding door rubs on the wheels maybe 1/4". I've seen a couple people post on here about "shimming" the door or adding washers as spacers on the mount area. Any ideas? Looking at replacing the inner door panel with some sheet metal but would rather just space the door out.... Any ideas please throw them my way. Wife isn't too happy the door won't slide open all the way.
  6. Got new wheels and tires on the NV passenger that I love and they stick out a little bit which is causing the sliding door to rub against the rear tires. Is there any way to extend the rear slider to let the door to bump out a little more when it is opened?
  7. I bought my van to do a camper conversion and I took it camping and went to open the sliding door and it would not open. The button felt spongy and would not disengage the lock. This happened a few times. Once I made my way into the cab and around the outside of the van the outside handle would open the door no problem. As you can see this is a big problem in a camper where the other doors are much more difficult to use to exit. Has anyone had this happen before? I read online that there is a problem with the contacts on the sliding door so I did the washer fix real quick and it hasn't happened again but I have not been camping again yet.
  8. Hello everyone. I'm Jana and I bought a 2017 Nissan NV 3500 high top brand new a month ago. Using it to safely transport our rescue dogs and family circus show (Circus Stella, named after the dog!) We already have a problem. The sliding door won't open. We have no idea what happened. It was working fine, and now it's just not. It feels like it's locked, even though we're sure it's unlocked. It won't budge. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions of what to do? We have the manufacturer's warranty to fall back on (hopefully) but we added some sound deadener and insulation. That sort of thing won't void the warranty, will it? The van was SO LOUD in the back, we added some "rattletrap" to lessen the noise. That was simple and easy and has been on for weeks with no problems. I cannot imagine it has anything to do with the broken door. This is such a bummer. I've never had a new car before, and stuff like this is exactly what I was hoping to avoid by buying new.
  9. I've seen numerous posts on here about sliding door issues.....mine seems to be similar to some but not quite! Just bought our 2017 NV 3500 a little over a month ago (just made my first post on here a couple of weeks ago). About 1600 miles on the van. Two days ago, my wife calls to tell me that the interior lights won't turn off while they're driving down the road. I ask if she got all of the doors closed, and she said that the door ajar light was on. Had her try re-closing all of the doors, still on. So, it definitely is the sliding door. What happens is when you try to close it, it doesn't quite close all of the way. Actually, it kind of will if you slam it, but then the back "pops" back open about 1/2 of an inch. This is the same as a previous poster I saw from 3-4 years ago. The door doesn't squeak when driving like some others, and it can't be opened when locked (setting off the alarm, like some others). It just doesn't close all the way, and when you try to lock with the key fob, the horn won't beep. But the door still locks anyway. So I take it in to the dealer earlier today. They figure out that if you manually lock the door prior to closing it, the door will close and latch just fine. However, if the door is unlocked, it won't work. It worked fine when closing it while unlocked for the entire time we've had it, obviously. The dealer sent me home tonight with it, and are going to call the tech center tomorrow and see what the fix could possibly be before tearing it open. After I got home from the dealer today, my wife remembered that on the drive before the door wouldn't close, she heard something "drop" from the area by the door, what she said sounded like a bolt or something, but at the time she thought it was from outside the car, or a rock or whatever. So maybe something came unscrewed inside? The person that had the problem of the 1/2 gap at the back of the door like I do, seemed to solve the problem by inserting shims or washers and then it worked fine. Seems like this isn't the problem here, but I dunno. For those of you that know, where the heck do you put the washers anyway? I'm expecting the dealer to fix the problem, but if I can help them along with the fix I'll get out of this without 4 trips to the dealer and entire Saturdays shot.
  10. I need to remove the plastic trim panel of the sliding door (NV Passenger van 2015). Anybody have tips on doing this without breaking anything?
  11. anyone else have pretty rough/imprecise sheet metal around their sliding door window on the inside? See pictures for details. Not sure if it's the sheet metal cuts that are rough or if it's the paint drying unevenly. Will take closer look tomorrow after we unloaded the van and I can get to it.
