Tombh301 Posted January 11, 2018 Just wondering what is the best model ,engine v6 or v8 ,transmission five speed seven speed for the best gas milage city driving passenger van never more than 1000 pounds in vehicle Thanks everyone
ASD Dad Posted January 11, 2018 City? V6 I would guess. Transmission wont matter in city, you'll be idling a lot and tons of stop and go. Would also depend on how hard you are on the gas pedal every time the light turns green. That will have more to do with MPG then anything else.
radin2son Posted January 11, 2018 To get this choice, V6 or V8 on the same model, high top or standard, you are at the SV trim level. There is a lot of mpg data for both engines on this site. The worst cargo, high top V8 was 8 mpg. The best cargo, low top 1500 (V6 only) was 21+ mpg. Most fall into the 12-15 mpg regardless of the engine. It all comes down to use and load. 1 Mark Rogers reacted to this

radin2son Posted April 11, 2018 Truck Trend did their mid-year long term use review of the Titan new gas V8. MPG was about the same as the older 5.6 V8. This pretty much confirms what NVP owners have said about MPG. If you are looking for a used NV, the older V8 is just as good. 2 ASD Dad and andy_george reacted to this
Bamps Posted April 16, 2018 Altho i dont have numbers on my V6 NV, i can say that the V8 with it’s horsepower and torque, would have a tendency work less. I’ve had a Frontier with both the 4 and 6 cyl. and the more powerful 6 is about as effincient as the 4. I would venture to say that if I were to have the option I would probably get the 8. TinyStudio Posted April 17, 2018 After 5175 mi. my best gas mileage is 13.
radin2son Posted April 18, 2018 Normal combined, unless you drive it to maximize mpg. The 2019 MB Sprinter will come with a gas option or 2 Diesel engine options. Truck Trend drove the 3.0 turbo diesel with 7 speed, 22 mpg highway. The 2018 passenger starts at $44k+. With awd, the price jumps to $52k. Factor in routine MB service, the price of diesel and you come out ahead,$$$$, with 13.89 mpg. Can a MB fit in a garage? It will be interesting to see what mpg the MB gas version gets. Dastard Posted June 22, 2018 I have the 3500 v8. From Limon CO to Manhattan KS. 402 miles. Steady cross/head wind most of the trip. 1 tank of gas. Filled 25.02 gallons. Distance guestimator went from 70 miles left to flashing in 5 miles. Fuel gauge was below the zero line. I did the last 20 in a sweat but had three gallons left. laharview Posted August 4, 2018 2015 High Top 2500 I converted to a camper with the V-8. It likes 2100 RPM and have got over 17 MPG quite a few times. Passenger took photo. This fill showed 464 mile range.

Mdsnyder108 Posted September 16, 2018 (edited) 2012 V6 high roof conversion with approximately 700 lbs ad 207,000 miles on the odometer. We average 18-21.5 mpg highway depending on speed. 18 mpg at 75 mph , 19 mpg at 65 mph, 20 mpg at 60 mph, 21.5 mpg at 55 mph. The brand of gas matters with Exxon running the best in our V6. We don't get any milage improvement from using premium gas, just more power. That's contrary to my experience with Hondas and Acuras where you definitely get a milage bump from using premium. Our highway mileage has remained the same with AT tires (manually calculated as the computer is way off now) but city milage has declined from 15-16 mpg to 12-13 mpg. Tire pressure is set at 72 psi all around in 285/75/17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2's. Tire pressure and speed seem to have a huge effect on milage in this van. I ran 80 psi in the Firestones to get the same highway mileage. Edited September 16, 2018 by Mdsnyder108
