whitebread250 Posted January 15, 2018 Where is the fuel filter and what does Nissan call it? I have searched for it by name and looked for it on the under side of my van. There is a part called a fuel strainer on the engine by the intake manifold, but it looks small. Anyone changed one yet?
Mark Rogers Posted January 17, 2018 The factory service manual talks about a "Fuel level sensor, fuel filter and fuel pump assembly" that's attached to the fuel tank. Apparently, you have to remove the fuel tank from the van, then use a special lock ring wrench (J-46536) to remove the assembly from the tank. And you'll need to replace the O-ring under the lock ring. The manual doesn't say how to remove the filter from the assembly. Unless you're really determined to do it yourself, it might be best to let your dealer handle this job. 2 radin2son and ASD Dad reacted to this
whitebread250 Posted January 19, 2018 Thanks Mark, I did go to the local dealer(not a commercial dealer) and he told me it was built into the fuel pump. He said that Nissan started this around 2008 on all of the vehicles they build. Just thinking of being in Montana this summer and getting a trash in the tank on the way. It must be OK, have not heard anyone complaining or having trouble. 2 Mark Rogers and radin2son reacted to this
radin2son Posted January 19, 2018 (edited) Is there a service interval for the fuel filter? I didn’t see one in the service manual... It’s been awhile since you posted. If I recall, you have taken your NV there or near there before without any problems. We’ve used some off brands in rural areas without problems. You can always drive the top half of your tank to give your a better opportunity to find the brand you trust. We’ve also use regular trusting whatever octane the locals use. whitebread250 Posted January 20, 2018 Hello Mr Tuscon, It has been awhile. we went to Laurel Mississippi to goof off last week and bought some gas at a local station that didn't look very "well kept". I did not fill up because of this and wanted to wait for a better location. On the way home the van check engine light came on, (first time ever) and I thought back to that station. Code was p0300 multi-misfire. One of the things to check is low fuel pressure, that's what got me thinking of the fuel filter. I had put new plugs in a few weeks earlier so I rechecked the coil on plug fitment, ran seafoam treatment in tank, and cleaned the crank sensor. Going for a 200 mile trip today and we will find out if it will put up a code or not. I am planning on ordering a crank sensor to keep in the van tool box just in case.I really like your travel pictures! i need to take time to upload some of mine. Going back to Glacier this August. 79000 miles and still love the van. 2 ASD Dad and radin2son reacted to this
radin2son Posted January 20, 2018 Great photo. Hope the code stayed away. With all the new cars and very expensive pickups on the road, you would think bad gas would be just a memory. Some of the original Titans had problems with the crank sensor getting fouled due to its location. Cleanup and replacement worked. Mc2guy I believe had posts about this. Our van has sat idle since October, primarily due to our old dog. Better weather here also contributed.
