2017 4x4 Conversion - Companies and Prices

I just signed up for this forum hopefully looking some some advice on converting my 2017 Nissan NV 3500HD to a 4x4 system. I wanted to put together a current price sheet and capabilities and details for others to reference as to who is available to do this work as well as prices to save them time and $$ when looking for information! But be sure to do your research and call each company for an updated price sheet etc

 

Quigley 

-Location : Pennsylvania 

- Price ~$12,500 for a conversion Includes High/ Low gears

- Currently will start taking orders in October 2018 and won't start actual production until April of 2019! 

- Quigley will allow you to drop ship your vehicle directly from nissan and during the 15 day upgrade process you dont pay anything until you take possession for it. 

 

- Warranty - If you have <5,000 miles on your rig, you get the 5 year 100k quigley warranty. However if you have +5,001 miles, you still pay the same price and only receive a 3 year 36k warranty for the quigley components but still the 5 year 100k warranty from Nissan. 

 

 

Advanced 4x4 Vans

- Location:  Utah

- Offers a 2 year / 24k warranty

- Takes 10-15 days to convert and they are already doing conversions on the 2017 and 2018.

 

 

Both places require you to get the vehicle to their respective shop in Pennsylvania or Utah wait 10-15 days then you can ship or drive it back. 

 

Are there additional shops around the country that perform this upgrade?

Welcome. Based on readers’ posts, it’s Advanced or Quigley. Few have been willing to provide details...

 

If you google “who does 4x4 conversions?” others will pop up. Whitefeather in California is one. I have seen them mentioned on the Sportsmobile forum but only a mention. SMB types are solidly Quigley. At one point, it appeared SMB West was doing Quigley approved conversions in their facility. Their web site continues to claim they will convert any van into a campervan. No mention of 4x4 conversion.

Good to know. I am hoping there is some options to do them closer to the southeast and not have to drive to Utah or California to do this conversion!!

I looked at the Whitefeather site; they exclusively convert Sprinters. Wonder about demand with MB factory 4wd available.

 

Best to stick with Advanced or Quigley as they are familiar with NVs and no known problems reported.

 

Shipping your NV is an option, then pick it up and start an adventure...

I agree with Rad.  Stick with Quigley or Advanced.  They are the two specialists with the NV and that is a lot of money up front with a long term investment afterwards.  

 

Where in the Southeast are you?  We're in the Greenville area of South Carolina.

I am down here near West Palm Beach, FL but do take road trips from time to time and with hurricanes etc, you never know when you are going to hop a curb / object and need 4wd! 

 

My only options are PA or UT to do this conversion which is not really right around the corner :-D

I'm a little late to this post but if you haven't done your conversion yet, there is another Nissan Dealer in Utah who does an all Nissan conversion using Titan parts. No frame mods needed on the 3500. $15000 but can be serviced at any Nissan dealer. I'm considering this option right now so would be interested to hear your thoughts if you look into it.

I had always heard that Quigley didn’t include 4 low. The Tim Dahle all Nissan part conversion looks a little more polished than the Advanced conversion since it uses an electronic switch for the transfer case. You can check it out on YouTube

It looks nice but that is a significant increase in price. I would have thought that it would be cheaper since it doesn’t require the labor involved in the cutting the frame and floor from the Advanced conversion. Over all I have been happy with my 4x4 NV from Advanced.

Where did you see the 2 year / 24k warranty for Advanced? Their website indicates that it has a 1 year / 12k warranty on the parts and labor for a conversion of a used NV. It only states that new NV conversions maintain the full factory warranty and does not specify any other terms.

I have a van from these people.  Dealing with them was by far the worst buying experience I've ever had buying a vehicle.  

 

And after the fact they will not return calls from me or my dealer needing information to service / fix things on the vehicle.  Do yourself a favor and stick with Quigley or Advanced.

I was feeling a little envious of the electric transfer case in the Tim Dahle conversion. The mechanical lever on the Advanced conversion can be a press into my leg if don’t position it correctly. I new that Tim Dahle offered a 4x4 conversion when I bought mine from Ken Garff. I assumed that they were offering the Advanced conversions, just like Ken Garff. After hearing your experience with Tim Dahle, I am even happier with my choice to go with Ken Garff and Advanced. They have both been great.

sportsmobileforum.com has an interesting post (4/24/19) under 4x4 “It only gets you more stuck,” Chevy/GMC, plus 3 pages of reponses regarding 4x4 conversion options for a Chevy Duramax van. Weldtec(h?), Timberline Vans, Denver, Clydesdale, BC Canada and BOR (?) are new names to me. Weldtec conversion runs $15900 vs $14100 by Advanced, $13500 by Timberline, and $11100 USD by Clydesdale.

 

I have not checked any to see if they will convert NVs.

 

Sportsmobile forum members generally do not view NVs as true vans so there will be little info. Worth a read, however, if you are considering this type of conversion.

I will second the advice to stay away from Tim Dahle, i am in the process of trying to cancel my deal with these jackasses right now, by far the worst experience I have ever had in buying a vehicle.

What exactly are the issues with Tim Dahle?

 

Lack of customer service, issues with delivery, damaged delivery, malfunctioning conversions, etc...  The NV FB page has quite a few unhappy customers or potential customers.  The only time resolution happens is when you tag their manager Tyler Slade.  

 

I personally dealt with Slade and it made me walk away from the dealer.  Total lack of communication or any professionalism.  I then saw the complaints from people who did buy and I ended the conversation with him.

 

Dahle does two things that other dealers dont and for one they are the only option - 4x4 with FACTORY parts.  No aftermarket stuff, its all Nissan parts.  Pretty nice.  The second is they seem to have a full procedure in place for the lack of rear AC that comes up now and then on here and FB.  They pull the whole headliner and side wall out and redo all the duct routing and seal things up like they should be from the start but Nissan is cheap and lazy.  People seem very happy with the results.

Check out their videos. One of the problems with shipping (see video) is they submit shipping out for bid to various contractors. Better to fly to SLC and drive it back yourself.

 

They also do other in house mods. See videos.

 

They generally have a huge inventory of NVPs. Currently 10 2019 on the lot. One 2020.

 

They are probably the dealership you buy from and never return for service etc.

Thanks for the info! Honestly we have 5 kids 7yo and under and just found out our 6th will be twins. Which makes the 2 sets of 8 passenger vehicles useless for doing trips. Im in michigan and we get a ton of lake effect and do quite a bit of driving which makes me want the 4x4. I really like the all Nissan parts, but more so the electronic 4x4 shift. 

 

So far I have just dealt with Jonathon their sales guy but he gave me pricing for everything and has been pretty helpful. I would def fly out and drive back so not worried about damage from shipping, more so just worried about actual build quality, which in theory should be pretty straight forward since its mostly off the shelf parts so I have read. 

 

Im just starting to research these NVPs, I was headed towards a new 2020 transit since it will now come with awd however we cant tow with it and after driving one, im not a huge fan of the bubble that you are sitting in. 

 

So thanks for the info, im sure ill be popping up here and there with dumb questions related to stuff on this beast.

Neil, You need and cannot go wrong with the NVP. One question I would ask is about the warranty on the 4x4 conversion. At the very least it should be the same as a Titan. Another is what type of additional service is required and ask your local commercial dealership if they will work on it. Recalls and problems have been few so you are really just dealing with oil changes.

That was then, but what is the status now. Did your local dealer get this resolved through warranty? Or was your only recourse to deal with td or pay out of pocket?

 

Does this 4x4 conversion work for you? How many miles on the odometer?
