Elfmaze Posted September 7, 2013 my Nv did not have a tow package stock. how hard is it to add the wiring to the transmission for the tow mode? How much do the altered shift points help with drivability?
vanguy Posted September 10, 2013 Shift points seem to keep the rpm up so the engine doesn't drag. Engine seems to be "friskier" while towing. Someone smarter than me needs to answer this. I'll assume that you just can't wire into the tranny. I'm guessing it is controlled by the on board computer that creates the shift points. Hopefully someone will answer that knows for sure. Hopefully someone will answer that knows for sure. im not smarter, but i would have to assume the OP would have to find a way to figure out if the van is pre-wired for tow haul, for example my 03 chevy silverado didnt comewith turn signal mirrors, all you have to do is buy turn signal mirrors and plug them in and they work. if thats the case you should be able to get the tow haul switch, and install it and plug it in.. if not id assume youd have to go deep into the vehicle to install something like that. Also, thats not something that any aftermarket company makes. the only thing i can think of would be to get a handheld tuner that has the capabilites to tune it for towing. Had a superchips handheld tuner on a silverado i had that i could change shift pressure and shift points... not sure if there even is one for the NV yet. Also, what are you towing? why do you want the tow haul anyway? it really wouldnt benefit the vehicles performance in any way unless your were towing close to max payload. And if you wanted it to hold the gears longer you could put it in manual mode and have it upshift and downshift exactly when you want and
Elfmaze Posted September 11, 2013 Towing an open top car trailer with an antique Camaro. Maby 6-7k pounds? The Nissan dealer said it is an easy mod. He didn't quote me a price though. I would hope the harness already has the wires

KMGLTZ Posted September 11, 2013 I would try and tow with it as it is and see how it performs.. play with the manual shift too.
BuzGuy Posted July 2, 2014 I just bought a leftover 2013 NV3500 with the HD trailer wiring and a class 4 hitch. I do not see a tow-haul switch at all. There appears to be a switch in the end of the lever that makes manual shifting possible. How do I find the tow-haul switch? Also, my owner's manual sez I can call up the avg MPG on the speedo screen by using the left side speedo screen knob. It does not come up... I do get the miles traveled and avg speed but not the avg mpg????

vanguy Posted July 8, 2014 You probably have an older manual, the 2012's had the avg mileage display on the screen. They stopped it in 2013. The Tow Mode switch is under the heating & air control knobs. There is a row of switches & one is labeled "Tow Mode".
fenderfatstrat6 Posted December 9, 2016 so did anyone try connecting a tow mode switch and it worked?
TX MARSHMALLOW Posted December 22, 2016 I don't know about this one. Mine wasn't a factory tow pkg model and there isn't any wiring for the switch back there behind the panel. Although there is what looks like a larger connector that was taped up but I would imagine a sub harness would need to be used. Probably impossible to find just like the wire /small harness for the navigation usb aux input. It's availabe in Europe but it's like $200 bucks. I had to make my own. So until I find one of these with tow haul mode in a boneyard or someone pulls apart their dash and takes some photos, I won't know.
TX MARSHMALLOW Posted December 22, 2016 Also note I did add the OE wiring for towing . It connects up under the passenger side fender right into the empty spots in the harness. Adding the relays under the hood and done. Took about an hour.
