Looking for ideas and I am sure others are too, so...

 

Post up your wheel/tire combos!

 

Info to include

-wheel size, offset or backspacing

-tire size and brand

-If the wheel/tire combo rub

-impressions

-vehicle mods (lift size for example)

Hi I got your message but couldn't reply directly for some reason.  My tires are 285/65/r18 with a four inch lift.  These tires rub just a hair on the sliding door, so I do not think you could go wider.  These tires do not rub on the wheel well at all.  I have forgotten what the offset was exactly, I know that is vital info I am not sure if that is written somewhere on the rim or it could be measured, but I do not know.  My tires are nitto terra grapplers.  We just got back from a 1600 mi road trip involving both on and off road, and the tires were great.

Yeah, I was curious about your offset. I have been having problems finding an aftermarket wheel with an offset that is even close to +40, most that I found are +2 or 0. I would like to get 18x9 wheels for the added stability and with my math the wheel would stick out about 2 inches and with an inch of tire (at least) past that. I wonder if the tire shop would let me test fit a wheel and tire, mmm...

I took a chance and ordered up some wheels and tires, here's what I got.

 

18x9 Ion 171, 0 offset

275/70 r18 BFG All Terrains

Rubs the door, I can get it open almost all the way.

I have a 2" lift

 

So far so good, the ride is much more compliant and less jarring, I also lowered the rear pressures to 60psi. If you want to see pictures, I posted some in my Gallery.

Nitto Terra Grappler 285/60/18

 

No lift slight rub on sliding door.  Shimmed sliding door.

We used body shims to shim the sliding door rear rotating hinge away from the door.  It created more clearance and door still operates smoothly due to the hinge not being fixed.

We started trying wheels from Dodge 2500 trucks on the Van with the 285/60/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers.  We chose the tires because they  are E rated and the diameter came in close enough to the OEM tires to not be a problem.  We first tried 18x9 18mm offset and ended up with a 18x9 20mm offset Fuel wheel.  I think the ideal offset would be 22mm-25mm but, the selections is much smaller.

I gave up worrying about wheel size, stud thread length with aluminum wheels, etc.  I powder coated the OEM steel wheels black and moved on.  Doesn't have the same cool factor but I moved on.

Jon, your conversion is looking good. Reminds me of Kodiac. What progress have you made on the interior?

 

With your new tires, is the recommended psi the same? If not, have you permanently disabled the TPSM, or just ignore it? Also, did you install new batteriies?

 

We have trip, if spring ever arrives in that area, to Congaree NP, the Smokies, Shenandoah, the latter before or after we visit family in Charlottesville. If you, Chattanoga or anyone else have any suggestions, please post under "events and gatherings."

Jon, I didn't know you could reprogram them. The system seemed oblivious to over inflation when when we had the rotation issue.

 

We had the system reset at a new non-NV dealership in Wyoming, and the service manager mentioned that Titan owners would get a TPMS low psi warnings when they installed new tires "radically" different from OEM.

 

If you lower the pressure below 50/80 psi when you drive in sand, I wonder what will happen.
