Steering wheel audio control wiring in S

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

I am looking to purchase a 2013 or 2014 NV 2500 S with the power package.  All of these that I've seen don't have the audio steering wheel controls.  I was wondering if the wiring for the controls exist behind the left side of the steering wheel, or are they just not run?

I will be changing out the head unit and would put in a module to allow the steering wheel controls to work.

The reason I was looking at the S rather than the SV that probably has this already is because I don't want a center console, I do want the chair arms, and everything else I am going to do for the conversion doesn't need any of the SV features.

Any thoughts or ideas?  I'm assuming that if the wiring is there that I could purchase the panel for the steering wheel that has the controls on it.

Thanks!

Zeke,

You are correct that the S Model is NOT available with the SWAC.

From my experience, my guess would be the wiring is very likely there, however I cannot say for sure. I do know that the harness connectors are present in the S Model (1500 & 2500) for the 12V and 120V outlet connections that come inside the center console on the 2500 & 3500 Series SV Models.

With all of the other items that come in the SV trim (Styled wheels, windshield shade band, interior cargo wall panels, cargo mat, power outside mirrors, driver's side D pillar assist handle, Rear Sonar system, windshield washer low fluid warning, 2 extra audio speakers, Steering Wheel Audio controls, 12V to 120V inverter, center console) and the very small difference in price from the S with Power Package to the SV, I would definitely recommend just getting an SV. I can almost guarantee you the cost will be lower doing this than buying the parts to install the SWAC. You'll also get all of the other upgrades and in the end have a vehicle that is more marketable should you need to sell it.

I have had the armrests removed and installed center consoles in S Models, and taken the Console out of SV's and installed the armrests back in them. The task is not that difficult in either case, and can be completed in under two hours if you have the people who know how it's done. Where are you located at?

I can't answer you question but for what it's worth I replaced my head unit and find it an easy reach in the NV that I don't miss the steering wheel controls. The head unit also came with a remote control that I leave in the small bin under the radio and sometimes grab it for volume adjustment. It's also good if you're in the back of the van.

Being that you've removed and installed the center console and done the armrests you should definitely know.

Is there carpet under the center console in the SL?

Thinking of pulling my center console out but don't want to leave an ugly  open patch where it used to be...

I'm in Franklin, TN and live almost directly across the street from the Nissan Finance building.  ;)  We're a suburb of Nashville.
