  1. Hi Miles, I'll discuss this with the techs in my service department and get you some detailed answers...hopefully tomorrow. If you don't hear from me send me a reminder. I haven't personally installed them before or taken the time to see exactly how they've been doing it. However, I can say that they are running a main power line to the fuse block under the hood. Use a connector that allows you to plug the wire into one of the empty slots where a fuse would normally go for power. We've found that it's best to purchase a special connector for this separately to avoid having issues with it coming loose later. I would definitely NOT recommend getting power by jumping it off of another circuit, though. Also, you'll want to use a circuit that's switched with the ignition. I'll find out specifically what circuits they recommend... You most definitely do not want to do anything that could jeopardize any potential warranty claims in the future since you have a five year 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. Of course, I am assuming that you have a 2014 or newer model NV. -Jacob Teter
  2. Chris, any updates on this project? Call me when you get a chance... Thanks! Jacob Teter
  3. Congrats on the NEW NVP! I'm sure you'll get ALOT of enjoyment out of it! It's a shame that you didn't find this earlier and send me a message prior to your trip...Sunset Beach is only 30-45 minutes from my house. I met another family at Carolina Beach one morning last week where they were staying on vacation in their new NVP and brought it up to have a DVD system install and other mods done to it, and then took it back to them that evening after work. I loaned them another one to drive for the day so it wouldn't interrupt their vacation, and would have done the same for you! Best Of Luck to you. Shoot me an email or something if I can help. -Jacob
  4. http://www.rearviewsafety.com/products/individual-components/monitors/mirror-mounted-monitors/oem-replacement-mirror-monitor.html I would recommend going with the aftermarket LCD Monitor for the backup camera system that attaches to your windshield bracket and then getting an aftermarket ADD-ON reflective mirror. The reason is, the monitor like I have been installing is a much larger 7" LCD screen than what a typical rearview system comes with, and it mounts to the factory mirror bracket that's attached to the windshield. Aftermarket reflective mirrors are low-cost and easy to find (just google "aftermarket convex rearview mirror") that can be mounted above or below this, or even possibly attached to the sunglasses holder. There are also replacement mirror monitors available(like the one found in the link above) that retain the reflective mirror, and have an image behind this that comes on when you put it in reverse, but these typically have a VERY SMALL video image that's not nearly as useful, and cannot be used while driving as a "virtual rearview mirror". Hope this helps...
  5. Sorry, I don't have a listing of who else might be a distributor for the Camera Systems. This was something I researched and got setup for the benefit of my customers since I had so many asking for a solution, and I wasn't happy with the aftermarket solutions available here locally. Feel free to have the Commercial Vehicle Manager or Parts/Service Director at your local NV Dealer contact me directly and I can get them in contact with the proper people to make it happen. jteter@capitalnissan.com (910) 782-3050 (office-Direct)
  6. Hello Donald, hope that all is going well for you, and that your family is enjoying the NVP! Next time you're down this way, be sure to stop in and say hello! Take care, Jacob
  7. Great! If you get the chance drop by for a visit...If you've never been to Wilmington before I'm sure you'll enjoy it! The most important spot to visit is a place called BRITT'S DONUTS on the boardwalk at Carolina Beach...best donuts EVER! Where in MI are you located? My brother and sister in law live in Marquette, in the U.P.
  8. The system I recommend is here http://www.rearviewsafety.com/products/camera-systems/rvs-912619p-rear-view-camera-system-nissan-nv-backup-camera-system.html. We had so many requests for them that we've now become a distributor. If you order it yourself, be sure to specify ADJUSTABLE camera unless you only want to use for backup and not be able to adjust the up/down angle of camera. You can also choose from different monitor options. The replacement mirror http://www.rearviewsafety.com/products/individual-components/monitors/mirror-mounted-monitors/rear-view-replacement-mirror-monitor.html is the one I have typically used. This provides the largest view and ability to turn on all the time when driving. Unless you have done this type of work before, I would advise you to seek help from an experienced professional that can do the installation properly. If you're close enough to Wilmington, NC or just want an excuse to take a road trip, we do stock the above mentioned monitor and adjustable camera, and I have 3 experienced techs who can install in conjunction with your next service appointment for a very reasonable cost. Make a day trip put of it, and take the kids to the beach or one of the other many attractions in the area!
  9. I have been following this forum on occasion for quite some time, and have been pleasantly surprised at the overall good nature and helpfulness of both the owners and other Commercial Managers on the forum, so have decided to try and take a more active role in contributing to the conversation. About me, Capital Nissan, and what we do… I had a diverse childhood growing up the son of an active duty USAF member, and lived in various places including IL, SD, WY, KS, FL, and OH, before returning to my hometown of Buckhannon, West Virginia to live for the first time at 13 years of age. There we lived on a small beef cattle farm, and I worked for several other farmers in the area during High School. This upbringing, along with a career path that ranges from having been an ASE Certified Master Automotive Tech, a Millwright and Heavy Equipment Operator at a Fortune 500 Company manufacturing facility, the owner of multiple successful businesses, and an accountant over the course of the last 20 years has uniquely qualified me for my current role. My former job as an accountant who worked from home allowed me to live anywhere I wanted to, and it was time to get away from the limited opportunity available in Appalachia. In all of my travels I had never found a place that I enjoyed being more than Wilmington, NC. After much thought and consideration, my beautiful wife and I packed up our three boys who are now 7, 13 & 15 years old and moved to the beach! Shortly after arriving here I decided to take a leap of faith and find something that I truly Love to do. Since I really like getting out and meeting lots of new people, I knew that I wanted to get back into a sales career of some type. One day I was on Craigslist looking for a boat, and on a whim I clicked on the jobs category, and “sales”. The first ad on there was for a Nissan Dealership looking to hire several Sales people. My parents had both owned Nissan’s since the 80’s and I myself had a 1997 Frontier and then a 2005 X-Terra, and we’d always had great service out of them. In fact, I don’t remember ANY of us ever having a major problem with ANY of the Nissan’s we’d had over the years. Since I am a firm believer that you MUST believe in the product you sell, it seemed like a perfect fit! About 6 months after being hired as a retail sales person, our dealership purchased the separate NV Franchise and shortly thereafter I was given the opportunity to be the Commercial Manager on a part time basis while continuing in retail sales. After that first month part time, which was a year ago now, it became necessary to do this full time and I have been here ever since. During that time, we have continued to do things to improve the experience here, and the business has continued to grow. I personally handle all aspects of Commercial vehicles here at Capital to include ordering the vehicles, helping prospective customers find the right vehicle for their application, sales, obtaining financing, coordinating the work with a growing list of vendors to complete the up-fitting required for all of the applications these vehicles are used for, and so on. It has been an exciting adventure to go from only having 3 or 4 units in stock and selling very few at first to now having 30-40 in stock and having many loyal customers who have purchased as many as 10 more times from us! We have developed relationships with local (and often not so local) business people, who continue to come back and purchase multiple vehicles as their business grows. I believe, and many of my customers have told me there are several reasons for this: The Nissan product, backed by the Best Commercial Van Warranty in America is the best value on the market right now. The advantages that The Capital Automotive Group has by being a large dealer group with franchise stores under several different brands. Our reputation that we continue to work hard on every day as an honest, highly competitive dealership that provides truly exceptional service to our customers. If there is ever anything I can do to help a member of this forum, whether you are a prospective customer, a competitor or whatever, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I will always strive to do my best to help in any way that I can! 10. Thank you radin2son! I am in Wilmington, NC. I have been trying to type a post introducing myself, however I am at work right now and keep getting interrupted before I can finish...I will get it posted soon, though! -Jacob Teter Commercial Manager Capital Nissan of Wilmington
  11. Zeke, You are correct that the S Model is NOT available with the SWAC. From my experience, my guess would be the wiring is very likely there, however I cannot say for sure. I do know that the harness connectors are present in the S Model (1500 & 2500) for the 12V and 120V outlet connections that come inside the center console on the 2500 & 3500 Series SV Models. With all of the other items that come in the SV trim (Styled wheels, windshield shade band, interior cargo wall panels, cargo mat, power outside mirrors, driver's side D pillar assist handle, Rear Sonar system, windshield washer low fluid warning, 2 extra audio speakers, Steering Wheel Audio controls, 12V to 120V inverter, center console) and the very small difference in price from the S with Power Package to the SV, I would definitely recommend just getting an SV. I can almost guarantee you the cost will be lower doing this than buying the parts to install the SWAC. You'll also get all of the other upgrades and in the end have a vehicle that is more marketable should you need to sell it. I have had the armrests removed and installed center consoles in S Models, and taken the Console out of SV's and installed the armrests back in them. The task is not that difficult in either case, and can be completed in under two hours if you have the people who know how it's done. Where are you located at?
  12. Mr. Olaf, I found a solution to the rear view mirror issue in the passenger vans that has worked quite well for many of my customers. It's an adjustable camera that replaces the third brake light. You can leave it on all the time while driving, and adjust it to use as a "virtual" rear view mirror, or only have it come on when you back up. There are different monitors available as well, but I typically use the one that completely replaces the factory mirror with a monitor that attaches to the same mount. This seems to provide the best picture. I have been having them installed on I'd say over half the units we sell. So far, the owners all LOVE them. I will see if I can figure out how to upload some photos of the next one I have installed.
