mahu Posted October 19, 2015 Quick question, now that we have the Vin number we are in the process of looking for insurance for our NV2500. Any recommendations for insurance companies? Most car insurance websites don't even list the NV. It would also be nice to be able to insure the customized interior. Thanks for any suggestions! andy_george Posted October 19, 2015 I had Ameriprise insurance, they wouldn't cover the NV. Progressive did, and seems like a fair price IMO. Not sure about the customization though....
wollip Posted October 19, 2015 Im in the process of getting State Farm to cover my DIY conversion but they are dragging their feet. I'll let you know if I get anything out of them.
radin2son Posted October 19, 2015 We thought we had coverage (Farmers) when we bought our NV. Since we were at SMB West, I emailed and faxed all the paperwork to my agent and thought we were insured for the full amount, $66K, the amount on the sales contract. Instead, we were insured for roughly $40K, the cost of the van plus $10K for the conversion. Our agent assumed we bought our NV, then had it converted. The conversion could only be insured for $10K. We traveled around underinsured for quite awhile... We still have Farmers, but our NV SMB is under their subsidiary, Foremost, at full value. The key was that Nissan sold it as a converted van, and the computer recognized SMB as a Class B RV. It costs less to insure our NV than it does to insure our 10 year old car. 1 Bamps reacted to this

mahu Posted October 22, 2015 Thank you very much for all your inputs! Very helpful! I used to have Progressive when we had a car in the past, so maybe I'll go back to them. I think I also checked Geico a few months ago and they had the NV listed.

mahu Posted October 22, 2015 Prices vary quite significantly. I checked Progressive, Farmers, State Farm, and Geico so far and Geico is by far the cheapest coming in at around $75 for a mid-range coverage with $500 deductible for collision and comprehensive. State Farm wants $189 for the exact same coverage.
mahu Posted August 8, 2016 any updates on this Wollip? I contacted our AAA agent a out adding 10k value of the conversion but he has been slow to respond. Also, anyone know if/how propane in the NV affects the validity of the insurance?
ASD Dad Posted August 8, 2016 You may want to try Travelers. We've had them for years and they have been great to work with. Wife was in two bad accidents (neither her fault) and they were quick to take care of things even when one was a non-insured, non-licensed driver.
