  1. From what I'm reading a Cummins or Duramax would give me around 6mpg more then I'm getting right now and have more power. I was expecting more but we are dealing with the "american automotive industry " so like you said it is what it is. I want to know which one they are putting in the NV and will wait and see what the reviews are.
  2. Well I ordered the lights... I will have 30,000 lumens in perfect reflectors for hwy driving. Got the aluminum diamond checker plate, tubing, angle bar and flat bar. I hope this weekend i can start my build! Thinking about upgrading the headlights to them opt7 led lights also.
  3. That is atrocious for a cummins, wow I expected at least 19 to 20. With all the new tech that is really bad numbers. Wonder what happened. I never had a chance to really calculate our mileage. I live just outside the rockies, 90% of the time I pull my RZR around the mountains but its so close (45mins) that I never really figured it out. However on my trip to Edmonton with no load (600kms round trip) I was not able to make it there and back on a single tank of gas. All busy hwy speeds so between 110 and 120. Are they for sure using a Cummins for the NV? I don't now if it would be worth trading in the van for the new 5.6 I was hoping the diesel would be better mileage and power for towing....
  4. I'm reading sites that claim one or the other but I would like to know if there is any official word yet for 2017. The mileage is killing me on my '15 NVP.
  5. Hey Rad, I'm thinking about getting the CRL windows for the sliding door and the one across from it for cross wind. Do you think its a good idea to put it on the sliding door? Either this or get a 14" vent put in the roof i guess. Need something with a screen for sure.
  6. I used my nv last winter to haul my RzR in the back country, i got into some sticky situations where i had to unhook my trailer to make it through but it had no problem what so ever in the snow... mud on the other hand, stay very very far away from lol.
  7. We got the hood and around the lights done, worth it for around here. But at the same time be care when pressure washing as you could peel it back. 5 years from now I will see how it is. I have been told that this stuff is a super pain in the ass to get off if you want to redo it cause it will start peeling back and yellowing eventually.
  8. Thanks for the info guys! Just bought the euro campers 3 pc set, gonna be over $200 by the time it gets here. But if it works and lasts then it was worth it. I will post some pics when it arrives. Also for anyone else contemplating on getting some enter "PROMO13" for 5% off.
  9. post pics when your done please :) I love this idea!
  10. So I am ready to purchase the aluminum tubing and the lights but before I do what is our alternator rated for? I cannot find it on the google, manual or service manual. I am using six 50 watt leds plus another 100 watts or so for the back and sides....I am thinking about switching the headlights/tail lights and interior lights to led to save energy but might just install another battery just to be careful. Who's in the know?
  11. Not that I need a diesel but my service driver said that the new Cummins going into the NV will be epic, he is waiting to put the money down on it. He suspects the interior will be more like the Quest as well. Much nicer controls and placement.... and so much better mileage. Thats the only thing that kills me with this van is the bloody mileage, I feel like I have to haul a tanker full of gas whenever I go out of town.
  12. Ouch! Sorry bro, When mine was hit from behind/corner they did not want to replace the whole back corner, just hit it out and puddy it up with a new bumper. I said hell no and made them replace the whole panel like new. They couldn't argue much cause we only had 4000kms at the time. But to my surprise everything only cost $3500 to get it fixed as new. Expect her insurance to fight tooth and nail for a quick cheap fix... but damn that pic looks like a lot of money to me. They might try and cut sections out and re weld new ones back in rather then replace whole pieces, from what I was told by a few auto body techs here is that is where the rust begins, re welded seams = rust spots. Here if I trade my NV in at a dealer they inspect it for 3 to 5 mins, look up a similar vehicle and give me a value towards a new car. However if I sell it privatly people will want a carfax report or something that states the history of the vehicle and that is where I'd be screwed because it would show up on that report. Dunno how it works over where you are but I would be hounding them about this diminished value concept. Glad to hear everyone is ok. Why did you not like the Quest?
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. After reading a bunch on the topic I think i might go without the moon roof as I am hearing nothing but bad stories and the glass I want would be twice the size I am reading about so it's probably a better idea to just stick with the vent and star gaze on top of the roof. Especially now that I know it can hold our weight. That said I think I have found a nice awning, the Fiamma F65S 370 deep black fits the bill perfectly.. except the fact I am mounting the awning to the roof rack not the actual van and the mounting hardware is round for a van...
  14. Hey guy's, couple questions for you but first here's the low down. Never done anything like this before but I can mig weld aluminum and I'm down for learning. The only thing I use my NV for is camping and towing my rzr, that being said I just drove up to Haida Gwaii for camping and just as I thought... I need more light and an awning. I am thinking of doing the "usual" rack like 8" tall with aluminum tubing and cross bars. I would be putting six 7" 50watt single LED lights on the fronts for throw and one 8" light bar on the sides and rear for occasional use with a 12' awning on the passenger side. I would like to make a ladder so I can crawl up there and star gaze but I dont think the rack supports will hold the weight of 2 people standing and moving up there so my other option is to start gaze from inside the van(where we sleep) and get a big moon roof put in the back. I looked and it seems the vents are in the way though... thoughts? I would also like to put a camper vent in the roof with a screen... dunno where yet. Does anyone know what the weight limit is for the roof? and would that number have to be divided between all mounting points? When I stand up like to get off the roof my weight will be on the back 2 supports only and I don't know if they will hold or not. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated :)
