  1. The only fix I know is to dim the dashboard lights until it doesn't bother you anymore.
  2. ASD Dad, you should consider contributing your pictures of totality to the Eclipse Megamovie project. https://eclipsemega.movie/
  3. Great pictures, ASD Dad! I checked the traffic here in Idaho this morning, and all the roads were flowing smoothly. So, we drove to Idaho City and got a great view of totality for 40 seconds. Traffic was perfect both ways!
  4. I'm glad you're getting an early start. Please let us know how traffic and crowds are, especially as Monday morning approaches. Good luck and have fun!
  5. Chphilo, I've heard a few other people say they broke ignition switches with heavy key rings, too. I used to use a detachable key ring, but I eventually decided it's easier if I never connect them. So, I removed the gizmo that holds them together.
  6. I'm in the same camp as ASD Dad. My van key is the only Nissan thing on my keychain. I don't even have the Nissan key fob because I use the one that came with my remote starter. I don't have anything against Nissan. It's just that my keychain is bulky enough without adding anything decorative to it. But since we're showing off keychains, here's a hack I came up with to prevent accidental button pushes. I got tired of having my cars honk, unlock, start, etc. when I sit down with a pocket full of keys and one of the keys pushes a fob button. I used some 3/16" ABS from ebay and some heavy duty velcro. it completely solved the problem.

  9. I'll be near Boise, which is close as I dare to get. It'll be 99.5% eclipsed here. I'm only 14 miles from the totality zone, but I don't want to mess with traffic with the estimated 500,000 visitors that are expected in Idaho. I'd hate to be stuck on the road for hours with young children and no access to a bathroom. Several of the cities and counties near here have already declared disasters or states of emergency in anticipation of the crowds.
  10. I keep some items under the driver's seat, including a flashlight, a tire pressure gauge, a screwdriver with changeable bits, a couple of crescent wrenches, scissors, tape, flares, ratcheting tie downs, bandaids, and a few trash bags. I also keep paper towels, tissues, and baby wipes in the center console. I put folding reflector triangles, an old blue Ikea bag, a 12V compressor, and a blanket under the rear seat. I put some tire chains under the front passenger seat. And I fit a small folding shovel in the jack compartment, in case I get stuck in snow. I don't plan on doing any roadside repairs on the van beyond changing or inflating a tire. But, I like to be prepared for minor bicycle repairs, disassembling/reassembling furniture or other cargo, cleaning up messes, and handling other passenger needs.
  11. I'd like to add some sort of armrest to the end of the second row (closest to the sliding door). Do you have any ideas for doing this? I thought about piling suitcases between the seat and the door, but that would create other problems. :-) Thanks!
  12. I found an inexpensive filter on Amazon that fits well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003R3IFIQ UPDATE: Fram CF10743 fits slightly better and is a better filter. You can get it from Amazon or Walmart.
  13. After some discussion with Steelcraft Automotive, they agreed to send me a fifth bracket for the passenger side running board. The red arrow shows where I mounted it: The bracket is identical to the #3 bracket. There's no hole in that location for the upper bolt. I considered drilling one, but it feels very secure with just the lower bolt, so I didn't bother. The fifth bracket made a huge improvement in the strength and stability of the running board! I'm really happy with the outcome.

  15. Larry, I didn't look for any long/long options. Since people can only see one side of the van at a time, I don't really care if they match or not. :) Here's a photo of the passenger side running board from Steelcraft Automotive: I haven't installed the driver-side board yet. I'm currently communicating with Steelcraft about the mounting issue. The rear end of the passenger-side board sags about 1.5 inches when I step on it (distance between ground and running board, compared to when I'm standing on the step above the running board). The van body is flexing, not the board or bracket. I'm worried about causing metal fatigue in the body. I'm hoping their R&D people will come up with a solution. Mark
  16. We have the same problem with our 2016 NVP SV. I usually have to turn the rear air all the way up. I can't quite keep the back cool enough in the summer, and I can't always keep the side windows from fogging up in the winter.
  17. I got the SteelCraft running boards. I installed the passenger-side board last night and found that the rear bracket doesn't provide nearly enough support (Just like mk1_62 described earlier in this thread). The brackets and board are very sturdy themselves, but the rear bracket only bolts to horizontal surfaces. The other brackets bolt to both horizontal and vertical surfaces. As a result, the sheet metal in the van's body flexes considerably whenever I step on the board near the rear bracket. I sent a message to SteelCraft, asking if they have a solution. I suspect it would require a redesigned rear bracket that may require drilling for installation. I'd be fine with that, but I don't know where to get a better bracket.
  18. Thanks, everyone. I ordered the cheap ones and I'll give them a try.
  19. I'm looking for some running boards for my NV 3500 passenger van. This caught my attention because of how inexpensive it is: http://a.co/3wqXgZd I'm looking for any opinions/advice to steer me in the right direction. Are the cheap running boards worth trying? Thank you!
  20. I took it to the dealer and got the stickers replaced under warranty. The guy at the shop said they're insulation that protects the body from the heat of the exhaust system.
  21. My 2016 NV3500 has some stickers on the underside that are falling off. I'm guessing they're some kind of insulation. They appear to be made of reflective foil with a thick layer of a tar like substance. What are they, exactly? Is it common for them to fall off?
  22. I had the "speed limit warning" and "speed warning for curves" turned on. I'm going to turn off the speed warning for curves because, as I pointed out before, it's nearly always wrong. I think it just picks a random speed limit for every curve. The speed limit warning is actually pretty useful for me. I'm used to driving a much smaller car. The NV feels to me like it's going slower than it actually is. So, I'm going to leave this feature on for the time being. There's a speed limit sensitivity control that's helpful. You can choose how many MPH over the limit you have to go to trigger the warnings. It would be great if this stuff was explained in the navigation manual. We could also use some obvious visual cues on the dashboard to explain any sort of beeping. Hello, Nissan. Are you listening?
