Not familiar with the Here app. What does it do?
-
I pre-download topographic maps to my iPad so I don't need a cell signal to know where I am. Actually as a navigational aid, it doesn't get much better than an iPad. I have marine charts I use on my boat, topos I use while camping or without cell signal, and navigation apps like Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze. With a little pre-planning, the iPad is a fantastic tool.

Welcome! I lived in Indiana for 5 years. Great report on the van. I totally agree about a 4 seat 3rd row and not having enough rail covers. We have our seats in the same configuration you do.

It amazes me that car companies want to charge for a product that is inferior to free apps like Waze, Apple and Google maps. They should just allow the use of these apps through bluetooth connection from a smart phone. I'd love to be able to run one of those apps on my touchscreen in the dash. I'd sing Nissan's praises instead of criticizing their awful system. I know one thing is sure, I will never pay to upgrade the nav system. Ordering an iPad mount today!

Our salesman was the commercial sales rep.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to mount my iPad so I can run Google maps. I also use the Waze app from time to time.

Hey all, I would like to get an iPad mount. I have one in my F-250 and love being able to have weather radar, navigation and trip logs at my fingertips, let alone email (when I'm stopped). I don't want to get a permanent mount, but rather either a window mount or a cup holder mount. Does anyone have one they would recommend? Thanks!

This is my first car with in-dash navigation. I have always either used a dash mount Garmin unit, my phone or iPad for navigation. I have always been happy with these devices except for the fact that you have to mount them somehow to make them easily viewable. I was excited to not have to worry about that with the NV, but after using the nav system, I am disappointed. It did not seem to know the best routes around Tampa, especially near our toll-way that has lanes that reverse depending on time of day. it regularly didn't know exit numbers which is extremely unhelpful. Now I'm contemplating going back to systems I know and trust for my road trip in June. I have no confidence this system will choose the best route to get where I want to go.

I have had to change an alternator twice in my F-250, oddly both times in Tennessee. It's right up on top which makes it take less than 30 minutes. Sadly it doesn't look as easy on the NV. But with 99,233 miles left on my warranty, I don't plan to change an alternator for a long time.

Wow! That looks awesome!

Congrats! Can't wait to hear about that 7 speed transmission!

Cool, thanks. On my first outing with the boat I didn't feel like I needed tow mode so I didn't use it. We don't have any hills where I live and my boat only weighs about 4500 lbs with gear. It did like to hold 3rd gear when getting up to speed but I expected that. I was very happy with how it towed. Just wish it got the same towing MPG as my diesel!

That helps a lot. I tow an enclosed trailer with my F-250 that weighs about 7,000 lbs loaded. I haven't pulled it with the van yet and don't plan to, but I always wonder about "what if" scenarios.

Hey guys. I admit I haven't read the manual yet about this feature, but I was thinking about it so I thought I would make it a post. At what weight should you use tow mode? Does it just keep you out of overdrive or does it change/harden shift points? Lastly, tell me about your real world experiences. When do you use it and maybe more importantly, when do you not use it?
-
Sorry I can't help but just wondering how much you are towing? I have a boat that fully loaded probably comes in at about 4500 lbs. Van tows it with ease but I could see myself towing heavier down the road. At what weight would you consider needing airbags? Thanks and good luck! I may need your answer down the road!

I pulled my boat for the first time this weekend and I can see why people are choosing this van if they need to pull a trailer. Great power at all speeds and plenty of acceleration. Unfortunately the only thing this van won't pass is a gas station. She gets very thirsty. I guess that's all gas V8s though. One thing Nissan seriously needs to consider is dual tanks or a larger gas tank. If someone makes a kit to relocate the spare tire to the door and add a second tank, I'd buy it in a second!

Great write ups! Thanks for sharing!

Welcome! I just bought my new 2016 a little over a week ago. I have learned a lot from this forum so far. Hope you enjoy it too!

That's one of the reasons we bought our NV! If we wanted to take anyone with us on our pontoon boat (a 20' Sylvan) they had to follow us to the ramp. It sucked especially when we were paying parking fees at some of the ramps down here.

2017 V8 high roof cargo Crew van newbie
KDS replied to cabinetcrew's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
Been a Ford guy all my life. I have 4 Fords at my house right now. But when it was time to buy a full size van, I became a Nissan owner. Welcome to the forum. I'm new here too! -
Hey guys, I have a front Reece receiver on my F-250 that I use for mounting a winch or a fishing rod holder. I have searched but haven't found any for the NV. Anyone have any ideas? Not sure I want to pay for custom fabrication, but maybe that is what it will take. Thanks!

Back when I was a kid (I'm 37), my parents had two full size vans, the first an 82 Ford Econoline and then a 94 Ford Econoline high top decked out by Mark III. It had a TV, VCR and Nintendo! I still have fond memories of playing Duck Hunt while my dad swerved to try to make me miss! We weren't the only family to have a full size van, with my best friend down the street having one too. We pulled our boat to the lake every weekend, and took family road trips. It was my dad's daily driver during the week. I know times change and gas prices and the search for better fuel economy have had a large affect, but now that I'm back in a full size van for the first time since 1997 (when my parents sold their van) and for the first time in my adult life, I can't for the life of me figure out why these things aren't flying off the shelves. I have an 02 F-250 that I bought new and love. My wife and I have taken many road trips, camping adventures and fishing trips with the boat in that truck and it is still my baby after 260,000 miles. We'd put our two black labs in the back seat and off we went. Sadly both dogs passed away at 13 last year, but we plan to get 2 more dogs in the future. Almost 2 years ago, we adopted 2 boys out of the foster care system and they are now 12 and 8. My mom also lives with us and the truck was no longer big enough. I also have a 98 Ford Expedition with 240,000 miles that is still in good shape, but the transmission is no longer up for towing the boat and when we put everyone in it, there is no room for gear. I'm so excited to have a vehicle that can carry our family of 5, dogs, gear and tow the boat. It does things my Expedition could never do and does some things better than my F-250 does (like being able to secure everything inside a locked vehicle rather than an unsecure truck bed). Maybe we aren't the average family, but I can't figure out why anyone with kids would choose a full size SUV over an NV. I'm probably preaching to the choir, but does anyone else feel this way?

Hey guys, one of the reasons we bought our NV was to pull our boat. I fish both freshwater and saltwater all around the Tampa Bay area. I see a lot of posts about folks pulling travel trailers. Just wondering who else here boats or goes fishing?
