Working man's van custom interior/finished result
wollip replied to Installation Solutions Inc's topic in Interior
Excellent work!!! -
Here is a copy of a very good post by Vanguy - if you need to see the photos just do a search for cabin air filter: Let me start by saying I have many allergies & the cabin filter is a real blessing. A huge thanks to tmbrook for pointing this feature out. Yes the filter that fits the Nissan GTR fits perfectly. At O Reilly Auto parts they sell the Micro Guard # 3696 that fits perfectly. O Reilly's website says the WIX 24479 & the Fram CF 10743 also fit though I can't confirm for sure. To put the filter element in requires that you remove the glove box. That means you must remove the lower portion of the dash that the glove box is mounted in. I've attached some pics to help explain this. This is the lower dash area with the glove box removed. This is the front of the dash where the 7 screws are located. The 2 arrows in the middle are for the 2 screws inside the glove box on both sides of the metal catch: Once you have the dash out, the filter box is right above the fan motor. Remove the cover by pressing the plastic clips on each side as marked: Insert the filter with the directional flow arrow on the side pointing down. That's pretty much it. Just put everything back together. When putting the dash back together, there is a plastic lip that runs down the entire right side of the dash piece that you removed. It sticks out only one eighth of an inch. This lip will tuck under your black rubber weather stripping for the door. Edited by vanguy, 05 July 2013 - 01:30 PM.

A reminder to check your manual shift control button occasionally - even if you are a flatlander. The button on the end of the shift lever which drops the transmission out of overdrive and activates the manual shift mode failed incrementally on my 2012 2500. The service tech (Gene)at North Point Nissan in Little Rock, AR diagnosed the problem with a combination of wizard like skills and a fancy voltmeter. As he said - high impedance in the switch contacts. Bottom line - shift lever assembly was replaced. Gene explained that the button works in a fashion very similar to the buttons on an older cell phone or a tv remote - and that over time they can fail or not, depending on - luck?

Manual Shift Control Problem was - it failed. No way to downshift at all. And it failed late Saturday evening on what turned out to be the day before my three year warranty expired (at midnight Sunday). Of course, the service dept is closed on Sunday but I was able to go online and schedule a service appt for first thing on Monday. Dealership (North Point Nissan in Little Rock, AR) said technically your warranty is expired but here's a number to call at Nissan - plead your case while we wait for the part to come in. Nissan agreed to cover the part (on a goodwill basis) if I would pay the labor charge. All things considered, I took the deal and thanked them for working with me on this. They saved me just shy of $500 bucks. The dealership held the labor charge to no more than the initial diagnostic fee. So sometimes things do work out. My thanks to Vic at corporate and Fred at the dealership for all your help.

I have had the OEM smoke bug deflector installed for about 30 months and continue to be satisfied with it. It looks gloss black to me. Drilling was required but it is all on the underside of the hood. Once I figured out the correct orientation of the brackets it wasn't so bad. I think there were four, maybe five to drill. Each end is attached with 3M type pads on the topside - seems very secure. I have no precious experience with bug deflectors so can't compare difficult to easy.

Source for Push-In Zip Ties used on Harness in Cargo Area
wollip replied to Miles-Kevin Baron's topic in Nissan NV 2500HD
Try clipsandfasteners.com under their category of Cable Ties and Fasteners. There might be something there you could use. Good luck on the Nissan OEM ties - I couldn't find them listed either. -
Miles per Gallon for 2500 v6 low roof and high roof
wollip replied to dslavin123's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
I agree with KMG. My 2012 high roof with V-8 consistently gives a minimum 15 mpg and that is with rolling hills, a roof rack and AC unit up top, and running boards down below (basically a lot of drag). Also weigh in at 8200 lb after the conversion. Glad to have the V-8 every time I ramp on to the interstate. -
Out with the old and in with the new - Toy Hauler on the way!

Hey KMG - if I recall correctly, you have a high roof NV. Please let us know how the awning and room attachment work out for you. Details on how you mount the awning would be very much appreciated. I have considered that awning but never got past my concerns involving the extra height of the NV. Have a great time on your upcoming trip. -
Hope your issue gets resolved to your satisfaction. Left field / Right field / bench warming - it was all torture to me :-)

Another interesting aspect is the silence of the Nissan forum monitors. Are they also outsourced? Even worse, are they part of the "call center?" Edited by radin2son, Today, 02:44 PM. What has led you to believe that any administrators or monitors are connected with Nissan Motors? Or for that matter, this website itself? I was of the impression that forum sites like this are privately owned/for profit businesses that hope to build their product to such a size that they can generate some income from advertisers. Please correct me if I am totally out in left field on this (my parents told me that is where they place the really good players :-) ).

ZekeB, If you want capacity, I think you will have to relocate the spare tire and utilize that cavity. However, if you only need a small tank the long and narrow cavity immediately underneath on the side between the driver's seat and the rear wheel well will provide a spot that is approx 7" x 7" x 36" - I'm guessing 5 to 6 gals worth of space. As for a source, head over to the Sprinter forum at www.sprinter-source.com and start doing some searches for tanks. I'm sure you will find some leads for both stock and custom tanks in their discussions. That site is a good source of information for anyone going any type of conversion work - they have been at it for a long time and they love to talk about it.

It's working for me now - everything seems good! Many thanks for working this out.

Not working for me yet - will contact Rob as suggested. Thanks!

I nearly always use the mobile site with my phone and seldom use the full site. However, two days ago something happened and I haven't been able to login to the mobile site. In fact, the mobile site even looks different now. I can use it as a guest but have to guess as to what has been posted since my last look. Anyone else having this problem?

hitchesonline.com shows one by Curt that fits the Titan pickup. The installation guide is well illustrated and should give you some idea if it is even feasible before calling them for specific measurements. A good fabricator should be able to adapt one for you. I like Jerry's idea for the modified bull bar but I would want to somehow add an upper attachment before trusting a bull bar with that much weight hanging off of it. Good luck and please keep us posted if you have any success with this project.

I enjoy seeing them pop up like "Easter eggs" in various Person of Interest episodes on CBS.

8mm BOLT with a 1.25 thread pitch - if I remember correctly for most of the attachment points in the ceiling and sidewalls. Length, of course, will be determined by what you are doing.

Van Competition Continues to Heat Up
wollip replied to Chris_CommercialManager's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
I've been checking NV monthly/yearly sales figures at goodcarbadcar.net for a couple of years now. If their info is correct, Nissan has been able to achieve 50% of annual Sprinter sales (13,000 + for NV versus 26,000 for Sprinter in 2014) in just four years. There are three in my small town (10,000 pop.) in rural Arkansas and our nearest NV dealer is a 90 minute drive. And it sounds like Chris has more units available for sale than the 8 to 10 dealers closest to me combined. -
Good to have you here on the forum. My high roof 2500 tracks so smoothly down the road - can lift my hand from the steering wheel and experience near zero drift. Wind is another issue but as the wind increases my driving speed decreases. When I installed a 100lb AC unit on the roof I figured an aftermarket upgrade might be in order, so I purchased the Roadmaster Active Suspension 3614-T for 2011-2014 Nissan NV 1500, 2500, and 3500 Vans from Strutmasters.com. I knew I had done the right thing when I later on had to suddenly swerve avoiding a large piece of tire in my lane. The NV was so stable while avoiding the "gator" that I really didn't give it much thought until later - glad I had the active suspension installed. Only 15,000 miles on my 2012 model (DIY camper conversion) but truly love driving it. My gut reaction says you should have it checked out.

Thanks for posting the part number - looks like a much needed upgrade.

Tatunka - nice work!!! Is there an actual part number for that gas tank protector that you could share with us?

Chris - well said: "Rick no offense, give it a rest. We all know how you feel about your radio. You seem disgruntled and unhappy. Trade your truck and take your negativity with you, this is a forum for constructive discussion." Time to move on ...

fuel consumption monitor and aero mods
wollip replied to Dustin Anderson's topic in Lounge - Nissan NV
Search for this orphaned post on ecomodder.com - Nissan NV 2500 Hightop V6 aero modding. The info is a couple of years old and follow ups never happened. I have a RV vent fan and low-profile ac unit on top of my 2500 Hightop V8 and they definitely drag 1.5 mpg or so off my avg.
