@aztec That is exactly the plan as of now. I plan to put some Morel MT's or Morel Supremo's tweeters in the pillar myself and then do some light cutting in the area of the dash where the oem speakers are in order to fit a pair of mid-range Morel 2-way's which should fit flush mount once I widen the diameter of the current opening an additional 3/4". I was just really hoping for a speaker pod which sits on an angle facing towards me vs. flush mount on the pillar but oh well as they say, beggars can't be choosers!

I just wanted to respond to my original post so that it jumps up to the top of the "Most Recent" posts in this forum. I'm crossing my fingers that someone who can help sees my question.... Cheers!!

8DeepInTx started following NVP3500 SL Owner in Tx Stumbled Into Forum, A-Pillar Pods For Speakers, Bigger wheels and tires and and 3 others

Has anyone found pillar pods specifically for speakers? I've seen a few non-vehicle specific a-pillar pods that would require some cutting/mods in order to work for tweeters or mid range speakers but nothing specific to the NV3500 or even specific to car audio. What am I missing? Have any of you made this modification with any measure of success?

@tjash Awesome looking mods...I particularly love the side steps. Where did you find them? I have had a tough time finding full length drivers side steps and yours are exactly like what I am looking for. Mind sharing the manufacturer?

@Cameron Ahh yes, your mods reminded me that I too have swapped out the bulbs in the headlights as well as the fog lights and also have the Pormido D50 3 channel mirror camera. The upgraded fog lights seem to make a much greater difference in road visibility/brightness than do the upgraded headlamps....not sure if this is because the OEM fog lights are so poor that the step up is so much more noticeable with the Cree LED fog lights I have now or if there is another cause. Either way, upgrading both sets of bulbs has been a great, and inexpensive modification that probably took less than one hour to complete. As for your Apple CarPlay complaint, there are tons of double din aftermarket head units out there that have Apple (and Android) connectivity/CarPlay and you can even find better than average ones for less than $250. The screens I purchased are not installed in the headrests but they are attached to the headrest with a strap and then have two pegs that go into the NV's headrest hole and then have a hollow top so that the OEM headrest can be inserted into this tube that the screens clip onto. I opted for some off brand screens that actually were an impulse buy I came across at a flea market and grabbed them for a few reasons. I wanted 5 total because of the number of kids and age range of the kids and if your kids are anything like mine, with all the button and screen pushing they do on roadtrips, any unit installed back there will likely only have a 2-3 roadtrip life span and I dont want to throw $3k out the window on broken screens. The ones I got were $1000 total due primarily to the fact they are off brand, i was buying so many, and I was able to negotiate with the vendor at the flea market. I really like them so far and are bluetooth, apple/android compatible, have 2 headsets each, have 10" touchscreen's, and can charge via 12v or USB. What type of running boards/side steps are you looking at? Are you going to get full length ones on both sides or buy the shorter one for drivers side? Do you have a manufacturer that you like?

@Cameron I have fixed/enhanced the issue with the rear A/C lack of air flow that you likely have seen others post about. I purchased the kit from the small biz in FL that corrects the reduced air flow and that enhancement has been a life saver...especially in Tx during Jun/Jul/Aug when sitting in the rear rows was comparable to a sauna. I have also flipped the second row bench so that it is rear facing. I recently put aftermarket 285/60/20 Toyo tires and some 20x9 HELO wheels which isnt a "family related" modification but it was time for new tires and I found a steal of a deal on them. I have upgraded all the speakers, added a LC7i sound processor, and an amp along with 10" subs. I have not swapped out the head unit but that's something I might do down the road I am currently in the process of adding an auxiliary battery and outlets. I have a yellow top 34/78 Optima battery as of today have added (6) USB 3.0 outlets, (2) 125v outlets, and (1) 15amp 125v waterproof outlet with dual extension cords. I still have to install the fuse block, 12v onboard charger, 2000w Pure Sine inverter, isolator switch, and wires. I have several hours left on those mods which will absolutely help the kiddos avoid fighting over the outlets when their devices need attl juice. I do have (4) 10.1" Bluetooth headrest screens that will get installed once all the outlets are wired up and ready to go. I am considering adding a Maxxair unit but want to see how things feel inside the rear of the van during the upcoming summer months before I take on another project. What do you have on your docket in the way of modifications?

@Cameron Welcome to the group and yes, it is unfortunate that the NV3500 is EOL. I can tell you that as a father to 7 kiddos ranging in age from 7 to 14, this van has been an incredible investment which has been very reliable as well as functional and allowed us to travel as a family and even bring along friends or additional family at times. I have done a handful of modifications to my NV but no where near the level that some of the group have done with theirs. If you travels in the NV ever bring you through TX give us a shout so we can create a NV meet-up! T. King

I have been racking my brain doing online research trying to determine if I will need a suspension lift in order to avoid rubbing, or any other issues, after swapping the stock wheels/tires for the aftermarket pair I just picked up by happenstance at a basement price. The wheels are 20x9 and the tires are 285/60/20. Question: will I need to get a lift prior to, or simultaneous to the install of these new wheels & tires? I know there is a chance that I will need to shim the sliding door which is fine. My main concern is whether or not I am going to be able to mount these new tires and wheels and drive off onto the highway without having issues with turning/rubbing/etc. Any ideas or input out there??

So I grew up in a family where the elder statesmen preached that one should *never* do a transmission fluid flush & fill unless the transmission had been swapped/replaced. From the research I have done it does appear that there are two camps on this topic....those who swear by doing it religiously and the other camp being those who preach to never do it. What does the NV3500 community have to say on this issue? Is there anyone out there who changes their fluids per OEM maintenance recommendations with positive feedback? What about those who have had a negative experience with their transmission as a result of doing fluid changes? General thoughts or input welcome.... My 2016 is just passing 50k miles so I have begun to ponder if I should or shouldn't flush the transmission since I believe I am nearing the recommended mileage mark to do so. Thanks in advance for the responses.

HELP......Rear Left Quarter Panel Power Inverter
8DeepInTx replied to 8DeepInTx's topic in Accessories & Modifications
@crusty and @aztec I appreciate the input.....you both certainly helped me decide to NOT splice into that power inverter at all. I have spent the past few days reading some of the other forums/posts and think I am going to run two additional Renogy 12v 100AH LiFePO4 batteries (both mounted in rear of vehicle) + split charge relays + power inverter + battery isolator switch/monitor +inverter (still calculating if load merits 1000W or 1500W) + fuse along with all the obvious wiring needed. I am going to attempt to mount one 12v on either side of the rear quarter panel and split the load as evenly as possible. One of the open items I still need to investigate and decide on is plugging into the primary 12v battery and alternator or the possible advantages & disadvantages of adding an additional alternator which would be dedicated entirely to vehicle "add-on's" and by doing so not interfere with any of the stock wiring. If either of you, or anyone else for that matter has experience building an additional circuit using a second alternator I would love to get direct NV feedback vs what I read online about RV's or boat's etc.... -
Although I can easily defend myself when it comes to pretty much any other kind of car repair/mods I’m not super savvy when it comes to wiring and electrical systems so I’m reaching out to the NV community in an attempt to solicit help. I have a 2016 NVP3500 SL and am in the process of upgrading the audio system throughout the van. Given that the interior panels are removed for this upgrade, I decided I would take advantage and add some additional USB3.0 quick charge ports on both rear quarter panels. In order to get power to these new outlets my plan was to just splice into the existing cigarette lighter and 120v outlet on the drivers side and then run wiring from the 120v outlet in the center console hidden along the floor panels all the way to about 5” above the 6x9 speaker where I plan to cut a spot in the panel & install the small panel including two additional USB3.0 ports. My question is: I looked up the part number located on the small silver box (approx 6”x6”) located bolted to the hollow rectangular space near the left rear door and it appears to be a power inverter. Photos attached below. Does anyone know what this supplies power to? Has anyone connected to this and gotten power for additional outlets like what I’m looking to do? Maybe a power source for an amp/subwoofer? Small fridge/freezer combo? I would be very grateful for any input from those in the community on what this power inverter is designated for AND if I can use it for these additional power sources OR to bring power to an external amplifier/subwoofer would be greatly appreciated! I would love to not have to run wiring for my amp’s power all the way from the 12v battery under the hood! Thanks in advance!

I called the salesman who has sold me both of the NVP’s (2016 SL & 2018 SL) which I have owned last week when I heard that 2021 was the last production year for the NV3500. His response was that the new Nissan N.A. CEO feels like the line of NV passenger vans is not as profitable as it should be and that was the reason for 2021 being the last year they are making them. No mention of a two year hiatus....but from my experience dealing with these types of changes the sales guys working at F500 companies within corporate America’s are so far from the sun that they usually aren’t privy to the real reasons for the change. Lots of rumors and speculation at the water coolers but hardly ever first hand, factual answers. What he did confirm was that the last 2021 NV’s will come off assembly lines by June/July so if you’re considering a purchase, don’t wait until the winter hoping for a year end discount!
