Gas Mileage

Recommended Posts

I bought mine used too , it was a avis (or somebody's ) rental truck . It had 19k on it when I got it .

 Tips to increase your mileage

1; use the manual mode on the transmission and down shift with that to slow down , helps seal/seat the rings with compression braking . (if bought new , may help a little on a used one...)

2; if used , disconnect battery completely, wait 30 seconds , Then touch + and - terminals together (away from bat.  posts !!!) for another 10 seconds . This will remove all power from the capacitors in the ecu 's and allow them to relearn your driving habits from scratch . In a few drive cycles the systems will have learned your parameters and how to respond .

3; get your alignment checked , They roll very easy when aligned correctly .

4; keep your tires inflated to spec , it seems high , but that's how it's designed..

5; roll away from stoplights , They are not 1/4 mile cars !

6; anticipate stops , decel with the tranny or roll into them ...

I'm not trying to tell anyone how to drive , but your habits make the biggest impact ! I've Drag raced  , still roadrace and autocross , and go ride my trials motorcycles whenever possible (main reason I bought this white elephant !)

7; A K&N drop in and 0w-30 mobile 1 help too !

I do a 45 mile commute daily , and I still average 20+ in town , at the speed limits or better ...basically empty 1500s V6 . But I get better when traveling with trailer and bikes ...

Hope this helps someone !?

I don't know how yall are getting these great gas numbers.  I have the V6 1500 SV low top.  My gas mileage is 11.5  to 12.9.  I have the K&N drop in filter and I use mobile 1 Synthetic oil.  I drive like grandma so I am trying to figure out how everyone else is getting these 14 to 18 MPG.  Maybe I got a lemon.  If I had know that the V6 would have such crappy gas mileage I would have purchased the V8.  I am getting worse mileage than the V8 according to the post I am reading.

Honey Do it Right:  My mileage is like yours and I to love the truck but can't stand the gas mileage

I have a 2013 2500 SV V6 hightop same story as Honey Do It Right i got mine used from a Nissan dealer that used it as a parts delivery. It had just over 10K when I got it.. i feel i got a good deal on it.

I have mine loaded down with a full van work package inside and i have it filled up with parts and other items a few thusand pounds for sure.

Only have hade it a few weeks now but my mpg is not very good,

First tank driving in town most of the time 30 to 45 mph i only got 10.2 mpg..

Second tank with a 50-50 mix of intown and highway driving i got a little better at 11.4 mpg still not very good

I was hoping for a avarage of 13 to 14 so i am a bit disipointed for sure but so far i love the van and love driving it.

I moved up to the NV from a Ford Transit connect mini van that i was getting around 21 mpg all loaded up but i ran out of space.

I am starting to charge $5 more for many jobs i do now to cover the extra gas. Working out of it has been great!!

Will be taking a long two day trip soon i am hoping to see some better gass millage on that i hope.

I got mine from Joe Machens in Columbia MO.

I have seen 19 MPG  average going from Denver to Vail. Up and down the mountain. Max speed about 65.

Long trip this summer to TN and back and that was higher speed. Averaged about 15 MPG Highway

This was due to higher rpm and coefficient of drag. I would rather have the V8 still but so be it. Next one I buy needs a better traction control or they need to go 4WD optional.

With my new commute that is shorter and includes 15 minutes every morning of street parking lot dropping my kid off at school ... Mine is still showing 19.1 on the display .... I haven't bothered to reset it or check it in quite a while ... I'm still happy  with my mpg ...

Hi.  I also posted this reply in the nv1500 section but thought I would add it here as well for another testimonial.  Ive got 26000 miles on my nv 1500 low roof. Bought new.  Just drove 3800 miles from Arroyo Grande, CA to South Padre Island, TX and back. Van was loaded with 2 windsurf boards, 5 sails, masts, booms, windsurfing gear, two coolers, suitcase, mountain bike and a platform built out of 1.5" PVC that has a mattress for sleeping while on the road.  If I kept the speed at or under 65 mph, it was easy to get 22 mpg.  In Texas with 80 mph freeway speeds, my gas mileage dropped to 18 mpg.  All freeway driving, stopping every 400 miles or so to fill up.  The only changes I have made to the van are to install a window in the sliding door for better visibility when backing up.  Very pleased with the van.  zero problems so far.

I logged gas mileage for an entire 8,600 mile road trip on my 2015 NV Passenger Van 4.0 Liter V6 (SV).

5 of my tankfuls exceeded 18 mpg. (18.4, 18.44, 18.44, 18.44, 18.74). For these trips I was mostly targeting 65 MPH on cruise control, light-footed expressway driving with very few stops.

10 of my tankfuls were in the 17-18 mpg range. These segments included some 70-75 mph driving and probably 5-10% non-highway driving (still very light-footed driving).

4 tankfuls in the 16-17 mpg range.

2 tankfuls in the 15-16 mpg range.

2 tankfuls in the 14-15 mpg range. (Mostly city driving, some highway driving.)

I tried to be light-footed the entire trip, by which I mean gentle acceleration, and working pretty hard to anticipate stops and taking my foot off the gas early vs using the brakes.

The van was very lightly loaded. I don't think this matters at all for constant-speed highway driving, but it surely helped my city driving MPG. I removed about 450 lbs of stuff (8 of the 12 seats, center console, etc. There were no passengers and probably 300-400 lbs of my stuff. So it weighed a touch less than an empty van driven off the lot.

Most of the gas was 87-octane "up to 10% ethanol." Some was 85 or 86 octane (what some western states call "regular").

My gas mileage f'ing sucks... super dissapointed.  I have a 2013 NV 2500 HD 4.0 V6 High Roof with only 30,000k miles on it.  Averaging 13.75 MPG... never really gets any different.  That's barely carrying any weight, towing nothing, AC rarely on.  Had I known it was going to be so bad I would have gotten something else or just gone for the V8.  Anyone else getting it so bad?... it's so bad I feel like there must be something wrong.

That sounds very unusual. When our 2016 was empty we got 19-20MPG highway at 65mph. Now that we are very heavy(8400lbs) and fan and solar addind wind resistance we get ~15MPG. Best was 16.8 on a tank exclusively highway, worst was 12.8MPG going up lots of grades in Wyoming.

Hmm... seems like I'm getting jipped then.  Are you guys reading from the computer or doing the math at the pump?  I'm doing the math at the pump... pretty sure I'm doing it right, but I hope I'm not!  My 13.75 mpg is an average with freeway and city.  I've gone on long trips and gotten about the same.  It's a 2013 that I've only had for about 8 months.  Maybe something is wrong with it.  In a way it's encouraging to hear you guys are getting way better because maybe it means I have potential to improve if I fix something that I'm unaware is wrong with it... but dang, I can't imagine what it could be.  Everything is stock... hmm...(???)

We run two high roof, V-6 NV2500s in my company.  They are always loaded very close to their max GVWR, and run a combination of city and freeway.  With ambient temperatures in the 40s we got 13.79 mpg last month.  This is based on 2 vehicles and 18 fuel transactions.
